    New Miata

Road & Track: First Look - 2016 Mazda Miata Unveiled in Monterey California

The A/V clusterfucks on the live feed aside, holy crap (though I think they went a bit too up-market)

I know Mazda is a phenomenal brand, but the roadster just doesn't do it for me. Admittedly the RX is pure sex.

It looks interesting. I like the new aggressive lines. Looks less like "gay" car and more like a sporty roadster.

Only one question: Have you ever DRIVEN a Miata/MX5 (with a stick shift)

No, is it pure exhilaration incarnate? :[ or are you offering to give me a ride? Ha

On the topic of Mazda, I'm waiting to see what the next Mazdaspeed 3 will be like. I heard it's going to be AWD this time around.

The only "gay" miata is one with me in it. But then, by that definition, Foureyes (my Chevy Sonic) is as queer as a $3 bill (especially since one of my XM bookmarks is the Broadway Musical station).

Fun fact: the original Miatas only had vanity mirrors on the passenger side sun visors

I love the little golf, that's one I wouldn't mind owning but I'm shallow and stylistically I find the Volvo C3 hatchback more pleasing.

an AWD MS3 would be seriously badass. I wonder if they'll offer it in both a 4 and 5 door. The original MS Protege was a pretty mean little bugger back in its day.

(aaargh, i'm turning into one of those OP's who over-manages his post, lol)

It's not exhilaration. Its this amazing feeling of being connected to the car and through it to the road. You don't get it in anything else aside from older BMWs (E30 for example) and the old british sports cars. The phrase "most smiles per gallon" is frequently used to describe the MX5. Its certainly not the fastest car out there (my '97 takes 8 seconds to get from 0-60) but toss it into a corner at 50mph and you'll be grinning like an idiot when you come flying out the other end.

Sedan would be tragic. A 5-door would be great. It's too bad Subaru didn't offer a 5-door on the new WRX.

Not discounting your opinion, but i'm gonna need a little more than just "it would be tragic"

I like sedans. But I like 5-doors better. Only the Europeans offer 5-doors these days. It's personal preference, but I know I'm not alone in wanting a 5-door sports car.

That's why i don't see any reason why they wouldn't do both. Unless they were REALLY thick and designed the 4 and 5-door versions of the new Mazda3 on completely separate platforms then the provisions for the AWD system should already be there in the bones. If they're aiming at low volume (compared to the regular 3 anyway) there's no reason why they shouldn't diversify since Americans can be hit-or-miss when it comes to anything resembling a "station wagon" (unfortunately...dammit I want a Polestar V70!!)
