Be careful what you post. I posted a thread about Betty White's death only to realize it was a prank. I have a feeling this might be a prank too.

I got to meet her once, at The Phoenician Hotel in Scottsdale in about 2007. She was prettier, and smaller / more petite than I expected. She was bright, and funny.

Reading her autobiography "Enter Talking" in the '80s I still remember her best from two of her "serious" stories from it:

The first was when at 21 she wanted to be a serious actress and at some obscure upstairs tenement theatre in Greenwich Village played "Lesbian In Black" opposite 17 year old Barb(a)ra Streisand.

The second around the same time was how when living in a women's hotel in NYC she made a joke to a boyfriend about how she was going to sleep with somebody, he blew his stack and told her parents, and her father, a wealthy doctor, sped into the city from Larchmont, told her she was moving back home immediately and threatened that if she created a scene in the lobby he'd have her wrongfully committed. She was terrified because she knew as an MD he had the power to do it, and went quietly.

She could've rested on her laurels as a doted upon pampered daughter but wanted more - and got it. She had balls.

Not long after her husband committed suicide and she showed up on "Hollywood Squares"...I was absolutely shocked...I mean suicide is not exactly conducive to comedy...

As Eager said, that woman had fucking balls! One hell of a lesson for all of us guys here for when life does not go the way that we had imagined it.

So sad, another great comedienne has died. At least she went peacefully, it's still kind of shocking. I expected her to be around for a long time, she's a tough one.

I have (and always will be ) a huge fan of Joan Rivers. I remember watching her on Jonny when i managed to stay up late as a kid in the late 60ies and in the 70ies. I totally got her humour! What a testament for being a survivor up until the end. She stayed current, relevant ( plastic surgery and all) and determined until the end. She paved the way, not only for all comedians, but for women in 'old boys' club such as what Hollywood is, was or will be in the future. Every successful female comedian owes her an ounce of gratitude.
    RIP Joan.. xo.. me

I wish she hadn't gotten the plastic surgery, and I wonder if that contributed to her untimely demise.
She definitely was a classic who made it possible for hundreds of other women to break into standup. Very brave, very funny...

Joan Rivers born 1933 and dies today at the age of 81.
Beyoncé was born 1981 and turned 33 today.
    A bit strange.

I was rooting for her all week but realised she must have suffered severe brain damage to remain on life support that long.

Although, I didn't always agree with her humour, she was one of the few that could make me laugh to tears. Clever, witty and two steps ahead of the rest.

81 just seems so young which made me laugh but it's true. I wish she could have stuck around for another 10 years.
