Long story man, long story. The greater challenge in the African-American community is the rate of HIV infection from drug use.

Smh at the idiocy in this thread and these alarmist reports that always seem to be disparaging GBM.

...and maybe also keeping in mind that this study seems to have mainly taken place in the Atlanta area. Which does not necessarily describe the African American Gay Male community in other cities, towns, and countries.

I say this with respect and no anger or judgement, can we watch our word choice on the "these people" and the generalization on the "African-American community" because like any race or type of people, some of us aren't part of some stereotypes you may have in your beliefs.

I get that gay/bi demographics will always have a slight upwards twinge in HIV rates, but the study has a pretty vague population sample estimates and it doesn't tell us how these participants were recruited, if it was done at a GUM clinic then obviously there's a higher chance that the participants are concerned about their sexual health habits so the data seems a bit misleading/biased here.

also a little concerned about this excerpt:

"Increased prevalence of HIV among blacks, lack of access to treatment and prevention services, stigma and discrimination may partially explain the increased likelihood of HIV diagnosis among black men who have sex with men, but condom breaks and improper condom use may also play a role, they write."

I've worked in a GUM clinic for 3 years and I'm currently working as a nurse, I'm just a little worried that studies like this will cause scaremongering and lead to people thinking of HIV as an inevitability based on their race/orientation.

I think the one cardinal rule is common sense during sex, if you use a condom the risk is virtually nil, if you're worried about condoms breaking, go to your local GUM clinic and get the extra durable condoms, or maybe try something else than anal, there's more than one way to fuck your partner.

    From the story:
"The researchers also found that black men were more likely to report incorrectly using condoms, compared to white men. For example, black men were more likely to completely unroll condoms before applying them and were also more likely to use oil-based lubricants, which can weaken some condoms and cause them to break."

I think studies like these are really important. I would have never even considered that people might unroll a condom before putting it on.

Ah this all consuming American fascination with black male sexuality. It's such a mystery isn't it? You want to explore and feel and taste and touch the mystery but fear stops you, yes? I love it! lol. We will always be the interest of people's fascination. Why do you want to know what I'm doing in the bedroom with my condums? When I was young I thought it was because of racism but I've revised that theory since I've gotten older. Your fascination with my brown/black penis and what it does is because you want it but you can't admit that to yourself can you? It's awesome. Now if you lead off your posts about men's sexuality with a statistic or scientific finding about white guys' sexual behavior, it would give you more credibility. But the ironic thing is that no scientist in America seem to be interested in studying white guys and their sexual behavior. Why is that? I find white men and their sexuality a very intriguing topic. Hell, the best sex I've ever had was with white guys. But they are ignored by American scientists, it appears. Why? It's not fair to them actually. They have much to offer about sexuality. Otherwise, it just appears that you have a hidden agenda with those black penises you are so obsessed with. I love this thread!

I think there is a fascination with BBD (Big Black Dick) lol. But this is a clinical question. The only embarrassment here is why so many young black men are getting HIV, here, in this country. We reduced infections by 30%. Much less for young blacks. "HIV incidence increased an estimated 12.2% among black MSM aged 13–29 years."
    http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/su6301a5.htm

Botswana HIV infections reduced by 71% since 2001

“The findings of the study puts Botswana among the top countries in the world to have tackled successfully the issue of new infections of the deadly disease,” added Matlhare. He also went on to highlight that the reduction is a step towards meeting the country’s goal to have zero new infections by the year 2016.

Through the use of condoms and antivirals the face of HIV/AIDS is changing drastically in some parts of Africa. Even in S Africa with condom use DOWN they had a 41% reduction mainly due to ART Therapy.

Botswana can reduce HIV infections by 71% yet our blacks have an increase! That's terrible news. To me it's an indictment of our sex education, the cost of medications, and the rampant stigma here.

Condoms and medications are free, cheap and/or readily accessible. Soon their HIV rates will be lower than ours.....we help to fund their programs, why can't we do better?

You make some interesting points here in your post, however you still illustrate exactly what I asked about and you are still doing it in your own attempt at answering my original question. What studies are there on HIV transmitted between white male to white male? Do such studies or statistics or facts exist in our country? My question and point here even confuses you doesn't it? You can't even mentally or emotionally process the question I asked about white males can you? Fascinating, lol. You illustrate my point here in your attempt to respond to my post. Thank you so much. You are one of my favorite people now on here. I hope we get a chance to talk again on another topic about black male sexual practices in America. I'm confident that we will because of the fascination with the black and brown penis.
