We Spoke at a Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting Tonight, Got a Favorable Ruling

The purpose of this thread is to encourage others here to do the same, when you have the opportunity. Community involvement doesn't mean merely patronizing the local stores, or attending events.

Friends of ours want to erect a covered outdoor patio at their cafe & bar in Wilton Manors. It must be approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Commission met tonight at 7 PM at City Hall to consider the application.

My husband & I both attended, and signed up to speak. We each made our presentation at the podium in support of this application. Some others spoke against it very strongly.

When the Commission voted it was unanimous in favor of granting approval. Our friends will get to put up their covered patio for their business. Which I think was a good decision on its own merits, regardless if whether it involved our friends or not.

I'm not sure if our speaking made any difference in the outcome. But at least we participated in the public process. And of course we always vote in elections, as we just did in our Primary a few weeks ago.

I encourage citizen involvement in government, from voting to attending public hearings of all kinds, like this one tonight. We attend, and sometimes speak, at other meetings. Of the City Commission, and other boards. Whether our friends are involved or not. I hope you guys also consider doing the same. Democracy is only as viable as we ourselves make it.

Which place was it? I was just at the Pride Center this evening, but didn't see your car at the pub when I rode by (was gonna stop in if I saw you).

Wilton Manors City Hall. We left after 9, and went right home. We had left the Pub around 4:30, went home to change and relax, then to City Hall at 6:45. We rarely go to any bar in the evening, unless friends invite us. Too noisy and full of kids.

Well damn! This Thursday is open on our calendar. But give me a call first, you have our numbers.

Got some places in mind? Do dapur (if you like pan-Asian) and we'll pay our own. We know the owner, love the place. South of California Kitchen on Federal, where we've eaten before. But what do YOU want to eat?

You're right. And I'll enjoy every minute of my adrenaline junkie lifestyle that eventually takes me out, while your gold-digging sedentary lifestyle takes away your youthful looks and leaves you broke as fuck cause you can no longer find rich guys to take care of you.

Actually I'm back on the Paleo thing (err, mostly...did Checkers tonight icon_lol.gif ).

Italian is my favorite "cheat" meal. Grilled/blackened chicken fettuccine Alfredo is my signature dish.

Do you know a place that does that? Otherwise I'll ask my Italian husband unit. If anybody does he will. And Italian food is just the bait he needs to go to dinner.

Nope, you & I never ate there. We first met at California Kitchen up here. And I avoid Hollywood, because I might run into my homophobic Republican sister, whom I've avoided for 16 years. She's always packing, might shoot me in cold blood with her .357 Magnum.

However, I'll ask the husband, and I've got their website and menu I'll show him tomorrow. He's asleep now, but as I said, a good Italian menu is the bait to make him go anywhere. I think we could do that.
