Quite the gratuitous article - and post. Other than perpetuating a stereotype, just what does this person's "living in a Republican state" - tell that to any Philadelphian, and see what happens - have to do with anything but GOP-bashing? For a guy who makes a big deal out of denying religion, this puff piece sure reads like a hagiography.

    More liberal lies:

Pennsylvania is not a Republican state. obama won PA in 2008 and 2012.

According to the Pennsylvania SoS, the state has 4 million registered Democrats, compared to only 3 million registered Republicans.

And while they’re currently GOP-controlled, Pennsylvania had a Democratic Governor, two Democratic Senators, and 13 Democratic Representatives (out of its 1icon_cool.gif as recently as 2010.

Plus, he’s a state rep from Philadelphia. And in that county, there are literally SEVEN TIMES as many Democrats as Republicans. Registered Democrats are a whopping 80% of the registered voters in the Philadelphia County. The district is so heavily Democratic that Sims hasn’t even *had* a Republican opponent in the general election since he first ran in 2012.

metta8, if you think PA has now turned Republican, its only because obama has been such as awful president.

The more honest answer is, "Pennsylvania is a swing state." It fluctuates between Democratic majority and Republican majority. It goes both ways. Since this is a gay forum, I'd go so far as to call it a Bi-State. But the fact they voted for a democratic president doesn't mean as much as you'd like it to--it doesn't mean that once Obama was elected, everyone in the state that was a republican turned democrat.

Personally, I'm thrilled to see him in office--gay, and atheist? He's part of the exceptionally small, if not microbial, minority. From the article (which mentions it has minor edits for length and clarity), he seems to have expressed himself reasonably. Sadly I can't imagine him being elected to a higher office, as it would require a larger voting pool and he'd lose his advantage, but still. A neat sign of progress.

Obama not only won it twice, but Bill Clinton won it twice, and Gore and Kerry won it too.

Interesting, I generally don't think of PA as a "republican state", but rather a purple state, trending blue......

That said, great article. Nice looking guy and sounds like he is doing some great things there for sure.
Good luck to him and hope he can achieve some great things!

Penn Governor Republican Tom Corbett is turning his state VERY BLUE.

In the RealClearPolitics poll the Democrat is leading by 16.6 points.

Pennsylvania has always been a more blue, democratic state. Granted it is prone to swinging in its state government going from majority democrat to majority republican and vice versa. But Pennsylvania has always been quite similar to my homestate of New York which is also primarily blue, democratic. In both New York and Pennsylvania, the small towns and rural areas and most outer ring suburbs are predominately republican whereas the central cities and first ring suburbs are primarily democratic. In this years elections, the New York state senate is the primary battleground between democrats and republicans and it is a toss up on which party is going to win control of the state senate. I am sure that there are similar battles raging in Pennsylvania this year as well because it is a major election year at the state level like it is here in New York.

Growing up gay and becoming nonreligious in a Republican state, I got the fuck out of Arkansas. Sure FL is mostly Rep, but SoFla isn't.

Don't be silly, you love Arkansas and you want to paint it democratic blue. When you successfully accomplish your political conversion of Arkansas from religious, redneck retard to sexy, southern progressive you can go ahead and open up one of the biggest gay dance and male stripper bars right across the street from the Governors Mansion in Little Rock.

The Governors Mansion driveway has already seen a lot of action, with the governors car rocking to free willy.
