Yeah, it seems the fear of being a homosexual is more of an issue now in this country, then the alleged homophobia in the culture. I'm usually surprised that people seem nicer, way nicer, to me as a gay couple then me alone.

I'm glad to see that this story has a happy ending. It's unfortunate that it took so long for this family to get there, though. Both the son and family are at fault for that. The son for not expressing himself and his needs sooner, and the parents for not realizing the burdens they were putting on him - the signs were there but they were blind to them.

As alpha13 said, the pressures of coming out are sometimes greater than they need to be.

I don't really understand if he told the father before writing the letter or not... because if the letter was truly his coming out to the father then he acted like a total douche accusing the parents of kicking him out and other things. Either way it's great that there's happy ending to it.

He has a lot of self imposed anxiety regarding being gay. But you could substitute any other adjective for gay and it would be the same story . Insecurity can be socially crippling. You don't need much of an excuse to beat yourself up, play the victim or pin your unhappiness on others.
