When I was a kid growing up Christmas was the most beautiful day of the year. Then as I grew up I saw we were drifting apart so in 2002 I was living in a huge beautiful executive suite making 80K per year and invited the whole family over for Christmas. I mean I REALLY did this one up. I think I spent about 500 bucks on the tree alone. It worked for a number of years then we drifted apart again. My Grandmother died recently and I know now Christmas is over.

No, I don't love Christmas, though I don't hate it.
I send out a few Christmas cards, and I usually have dinner with a few of my friends.

I'll confess that Christmas is one of my guilty pleasures.
I was born about a week before Christmas, so as a kid, I loved all the cheerful decorations, music and gift wrapping.
As an adult, it's one of the few times I get to celebrate my inner child... So yes, sign me up for kissing under the mistletoe.

I prefer Halloween ... but Christmas is pretty fun too ... it just seems to go on too long and it's inescapable.

It is too damn early to be thinking about Christmasicon_mad.gif We haven't even started Fall yet and some fools are already talking about Christmas. At the rate things are going, it won't be long when you start seeing stores and malls all decked out for Christmas in early August. A very sad situation indeedicon_sad.gif

My background is generally too ethnic to enjoy Christmas on any consistent basis until our Americanized Teochew Chinese/Cambodian in-laws (I believe they are Teochew anyway, or ethnic Teochews that had resided for generations in Cambodia, and who as a group tend to be highly assimilationist as it is), invited our family to their Christmases.

Just a few random facts about myself that I like to throw around on the rare occasion...

Almost as much as I love Christ's teachings about slavery and the suppression of women.

I don't think Christ or the New Testament encourages such things... The Holy Bible as it stands, especially the Old Testament surely does though at times...

Unnamed6, one of my really close friends who lives in Laguna Beach literally OUT OF POCKET travels the world helping out orphans and cambodia is THE ONLY country she tried to adopt a child in but couldn't because of those trying to grab children and sell them. She spends her WHOLE LIFE doing this and goes to all the countries out there. She has been to every shrine, temple, statue, you name it. She is incredible with a HUGE heart. But cambodia was where she fell in love.

    Wrong. Jesus explicitly condones slavery.

You don't have to be Christian to enjoy and celebrate Christmas. I love Christmas but for me it's more about the tradition and reliving memories.

On the old testament I agree with you Paul, but when it comes to Jesus ALONE and fuck the bullshit crap besides his quotes... Jesus was a damn good man. I am not superstitious nor will I become that but all I know is Jesus taught the world FOR THE FIRST TIME what we now call humanity.

Many of these are from the New Testament. Some are direct quotes from Jesus.

Do your own research. You'll fucking hate Jesus and religion after you do. I promise.

Actually Paul the site is full of Old testament stuff, and stuff the disciples in the NT said, that condoned slavery.

I believe when the Apostle Paul speaks of slaves for example, or to slaves rather, it's in the same spirit that he speaks to everyone else that he wants to convert to Christianity, in the sense that they need to abide by the kind of spiritual authority Christ is supposed to have on Earth. And a general history of Christianity would reveal that the first converts to that religion were in fact Roman Greek speaking slaves. And one of main criticisms from the pagans of antiquity was that the teachings of Christ were sort of made for slaves, prostitutes, murderers, and tax collectors (or at least to the extent that they perceived such a religion)... And I believe there is even a statement from Paul affirming such...

Now among the Jews, I can't say there was much of a tradition for liberty, that you would readily find among ancient Anglo-Saxon or Roman persons (unless you count the rather recent and numerous famous Libertarians that just so happen to be Jewish as well), is that there is that one famous story from the Old Testament concerning Moses and his Jews escaping slavery from the Egyptians... The Old Testament was a book written towards a Jewish audience (contrary to what billions of Christians might think for the last 2000 years), and Jews should never have had to be slaves to anyone, but he surely had a right to them.

Paul, I made it clear I am not a believer of the New Testament either... But Jesus himself did not support slavery. He taught nothing but forgiveness and treating your neighbor as yourself. I am not bringing his spiritual beliefs into this because he got killed over that. But what he stood for was love only and I know because I read everything he wrote while living on the streets for many years. It is because of Jesus many nolonger throw babies off of cliffs in some countries. It is because of Jesus that all these corrupt governments who have tried to manipulate the bible come back to ONE THING ONLY and that is love because Jesus STOOD for love. AND HONESTLY I don't even know that he was a real human being but the end result of all these words comes down to this character which may be the backbone of the human spirit in verbal form for all I know.
