It's 8 PM tonight (Saturday) at the Horvitz Auditorium off Las Olas Blvd. This time it's my husband at the podium as co-MC, rather than me, and I've been working with him on his script, drafting it with him. I'll be in the audience.

The Musical Director/Conductor (our best friend, along with his husband), is very lax about things that don't involve the music. Basically his guidance is that you can say whatever you like, just hit on these points. I always hated that I never knew what I was gonna say until the day of the performance, little opportunity to rehearse.

My husband's co-presenter will be a lesbian friend of ours. She owned the only lesbian bar in the Fort Lauderdale area (New Moon), now has a great tapas bar we love (13|Even). She and her partner do the SMART Ride with us, too.

So tonight will be musical, a gay men's chorus. With dozens of our friends in the audience to meet, as well as friends in the chorus itself. I dunno about the after-party, but we usually have one. I'm already wearing my smile. icon_biggrin.gif

    C. at the podium? Oh, Lord...if he's a typical Eytalian (read "ham") yer gonna need a crowbar to get him away from the mike!

    Have fun, Bob!

Thanks! No, he has a powerful speaking voice, and a good bass singing voice, too. He can speak extemporaneously with ease. He hasn't got the time for chorus rehearsals now, but he still sings solo, as recently as a few months ago. You oughta hear him belt out some numbers, phenomenal! But yeah, he is a ham and a podium hugger.

At the same time, he does have that Boston accent. After his double stroke, I've praised his miraculous recovery with no residuals whatsoever, neither physical nor speech. But...

I'll say to people: "C**** doesn't even have a speech issue after his strokes. Truly a miracle, and a tribute to him. Any speech impediment you hear today was preexisting because he's an Italian from Boston." icon_exclaim.gif

And of course he smacks me. icon_redface.gif

We have too much fun together. icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, and I need to stress again. In this show he'll be sharing the microphone with the most prominent lesbian in our community. Trust me, she'll keep him in line. She's as forceful as I am, maybe more so.

No, he won't hog the mic when he's sharing it with her, I can promise you. It should be a memorable evening.

    Oh, well.

Maybe, maybe not. The audience will be mostly your age group. Kids don't attend gay choruses. They have no interest in the gay community, totally spoiled & selfish. They want the rewards of being gay, without any of the work or public social involvement that have helped make it all possible.

But the older guys who do attend these things are almost all couples. There might be a single guy in the afterparty, but it's rare. Just a guy whose partner's out of town.

Yeah, something you would know nothing about, nor respect. But the concert was very good. My husband did an outstanding job.

Afterwards we went to a lesbian-owned tapas restaurant. We had a great time. They have a particular Riesling I enjoy, and very good raw oysters I had. My husband ordered a skirt steak, lovely the way they do it

We got home around midnight, winding down now.

You just posted Art_Deco' s husband's full name and business name in a forum that he doesn't participate in. He might not appreciate that.

    Southbeach,

Look, I'm no fan of Art Deco's post after post disparagement of the few who are conservatives here, but that doesn't warrant the above.

True, Art Deco over shared and made this one very easy, but Art Deco has made his wishes known frequently about using his partner's real life name.

I really think it would be best to delete that post before others quote it and it's here forever.

    I defer to your request.

However, Mr. Deco should take greater care in the future if he is so sensitive about public advertisements concerning his "husband" being discussed on this website. Mr. Deco should not blatantly flaunt the public activities of his "husband" here.

I hope Mr. Deco views this gesture as one of sensitivity towards him and his husband and will cease his continued taunting and bullying of me on this forum.

I frequently do similar when I openly promote charity fund raisers that happen to be car events. It frankly makes it very easy to real world physically find me so I have a bit of sympathy with him there.

Now, if Mr. Deco's "husband" doesn't appreciate his activities being discussed here, Mr. Deco's "husband" should instruct Mr. Deco NOT to post details of his "husband's" public activities.

I knew full well that his name could be tracked to these ads. And I knew which RJ member would be likely to do it. You didn't disappoint me, SB.

But at the same time you undermined your own mockery:

    southbeach1500 said
Art Deco and his husband are at the pinnacle of the Wilton Manors social register and because they are in that position, they both qualify as very powerful individuals in gay circles.

We may not be the pinnacle, but my husband & I are invited to appear & perform in these things. And why? Same reason Carol was there - audience drawing power. Their well-known names, in this gay community, translate into ticket sales. And we did have a full house.

So thanks, SB, for proving yourself wrong in your sarcastic slam. Though someone has removed that post (Yourself? I didn't complain to RJ Admin about it), anyone can likely still find that show advertisement online.

BTW, the informal after-party was at Carol's tapas restaurant on the Drive, 13|Even, which I recommend. Her partner was there, too. Lovely couple, they always do something for the SMART Ride. Either both on their motorcycles doing escort duties, or sometimes Carol pedals a bicycle the entire 165 miles.

They recently closed the only lesbian bar in the area, which saddened many people, including us. We enjoyed going there.

That was the bar from which some women tried to poach a handicapped parking space from the mixed bar next door, about which you made such a big deal when I told about chasing them away, having a handicapped parking permit myself. Just in case you want to resurrect your oft-repeated mistelling of it, southbeach, since I mentioned in this thread about lesbians being among our friends.

Unsurprisingly, he like his events to be gay oriented, and also unsurprisingly, I don't much care for that, but I also do a fair share of fund raising using events that fit my style and interests thereby leaving myself open for a 'visit'.

We all need to remember that there are 379,000 profiles here on RJ, and in this medium sized city, there bound to be some REAL nuts here. As Always, be careful.

That being said, here's my next one

    http://www.hemmings.com/events/detail?listing_id=42696

I'll do a thread on it as it gets closer.

I explained to you in a private email sent to your RJ inbox a few minutes ago.

A sincere question for you: Why did you wait until just a few hours before the event to plug it here? I'm sure there would have been a few members that would have been interested in attending the event had you plugged it sooner.

Instead, it comes across as the event was of secondary importance to you and instead it was an opportunity for you to brag about yourself and your "husband."

I received and replied to that email.

My "plugging" of events never results in anyone from RJ attending. So that's a useless exercise. And usually just gets "sharpshooting" (an Army euphemistic term) from certain members here.

I did suppose that maybe some RJers would already be in the audience, of their own choice. And so I might get to meet them.

And I was indeed bragging about my husband. I was very proud of him, and our friend Carol. That they were both invited to do this, their names used on the flyers and online ads as draws.

And they both did a great job. My husband did break down into tears at one point, talking about AIDS, since he was asked to speak about the SMART Ride charity he helped found. But that brought audience applause.

BTW, I thought in your email you proposed a kind of truce between us? To which I agreed. This hardly seems like a good beginning.

To which you & I can have a wheelchair race! (Well, maybe not quite yet)

But a Gay Seniors Discussion (or Issues) forum could be a great idea. Things like how to get senior medical coverage in your country, dealing with the VA for US veterans (and the equivalent in other countries), dietary issues, how to exercise properly, getting free gym memberships like I have, a ton of information for seniors who wanna stay fit, also political issues affecting seniors. I like the idea!

We've added new forums here upon request before ("News & Politics" was my own creation, along with several others), it can certainly be done again, if Admin agrees. FIF: you wanna run with this?

And SB did delete his post. Even though I knew my husband's name had been used in an ad by our best friend, Dr. Keating, the Musical Director & Conductor of that chorus.

Truth is, being well known here, we are KNOWN. DUH!!! But to drop our full names into the web here, when TOS/TOU says you shouldn't, is very déclassé. BUT, SB sent me a PE, and asked for a truce, in which I understood we would have better relations.

I'm agreeable, a decent gesture on his part. We'll see how it works out.

"To which you & I can have a wheelchair race"

I went to a 'senior's' race last weekend up in Stanton Michigan and took my favorite ricer boi.

It's a crusade that I'm on to expose the youngins to some of the greats of our past.

And look at those Studebaker's go. (Supercharged R2 and R3s). Two of them were original paint (the darker brown and red Lark), original owners and now in their 80s.

    http://youtu.be/T05xkmioBko

His hands are steadier than mine so he did the vids and I did the still shots. And notice at min 9:10 on how many were running within 100ths of a seconds of each other or in a couple of instances, same ET.

Ok, back to the topic at hand .... now that RJ has been around for eight years, a senior forum would be fine and useful.

Also, I still would like to see geographic forums so folks could meet people locally and promote hangouts, circle jerks, round pounds, etc. I think that would also go along ways toward taming the more outrageous disparaging attacks if you meet up with folks face to face on a regular basis.

I've suggested the above many times with not even a response so I don't know if I'm a worthy proponent of this.

You were the first to express the idea here, so the lead is yours. If you wish I'll give it a shot, I've gotten 3 new forums created here in the past.

But that was with the old RJ Admin, the present one seems mostly AWOL. I will do as you direct. And again, my thanks for your considerate words above.

    You're welcome!

I never got a response from the old RJ admin either regarding geographic forums. The senior forum would be much easier to do though. I'll give a shot with Jeff tomorrow morning so it's not buried under a bunch of other PMs to him from the weekend.

I think it would be most helpful if you PMed him too.

Oh, and BTW, do you want to propose an age for this forum? AARP makes it 50, which I think is kinda young, but that's a common standard. And frankly, over 60 here is getting kinda sparse, it would include only a handful here.

But I think we need to suggest an age to Admin in our proposal, that would be stated in the forum description. Your thoughts?

How about restricting it to AARP members? I will never join AARP so you won't be seeing me in there and ART DECO will be restricted to only posting in the senior citizen forum. Sounds like a win win situation.

Well, AARP or not, nobody wants an idiot sock like you anyway. So why did you post this? You say it should be AARP, that you won't join, so you wouldn't be included, anyway. That's the real win-win, you loser.
