Which state will be next to allow gay MARRIAGE? Maine, New York both have legislation coming up on votes for marriage equality. California and Iowa have cases going in front of their supreme courts that could allow for gay marriage. Anyone want to take down some bets? And what are you willing to put down for your stakes?

My hunch is it will be Vermont. Second would be New York I would also wager that the California Supreme Court will invalidate Prop 8 and restore gay marriage.

I bet it wont be New York.

We have a governor who is all for it.
Our state Assembly has raised the issue and passed legislation.
But our Senate has killed gay marriage (and other GLBT leg) over and over again. The Dems just took control of the Senate this election, but already an anti-GLBT rights coalition has formed in the Democratic party. Malcolm Smith, who is going to be the majority leader, had his leadership challenged when four Democrats threatened to become Republicans because of Smith's stance on gay marriage, which would have left the Senate in GOP control. So, Smith gave them plum committee seats.

The state is such a mess that I doubt the issue will even be talked about in Albany (our pathetic little capital).

My bet, New Jersey. Ya, seriously.

yeah; that'll be right after the other half of us decides we shouldn't secede because of a black president.

    MAINE All the way, baby!

Maine is my home state. I'm helping out, but we got some bigots to fight just like in every other state. Actually the main leader against gays in Maine helped to set up the webpage: Americans For Ther Truth About Homosexuality.

If my home state of Virginia ever legalizes gay marriage, my head will explode. I live near D.C. There is a movement to recognize gay marriages from other states and possibly allow them in the District. I hope that happens

I think Iowa will be the next state to allow gay marriage since the legal challenges are already well underway and going through the state's legal system. The only other states that gay marriage would have a chance are Vermont, Maine, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. California will see eventual restoration of gay marriage in the not too distant future but it is going to be a long, drawn out legal battle for the golden state.

It would be hilarious if Alaska shocked the nation by legalizing gay marriage. It would even be more hilarious to see the reaction from Governor Sarah Palin. I am more than sure that the right wing bitch will be all in an uproar over that happening.
