Part of that "uncharted legal territory" is addressing Detroit's high crime rate, which was unaddressed in this story. Until that is reduced to a level where people can shop and make basic business transactions w/o need for revolving, bullet-proof, Plexiglas portals, revenue producers will continue to avoid Motown, as any sensible person would.

He wants to buy a company to shift its HQ to another country in order to save taxes.

We should NOT listen to him in any way. Not a role model.

Well if Detroit would dump the corrupt, incompetent democratic party and elect a different slate of politicians to run city hall, things in Detroit could start to improve in a slow but steady way. Now that the state of Michigan has total control over Detroit's finances along with the finances of the cities of Flint and Saginaw. You would think that urban residents in these three Michigan cities would take the hint and realize that the democrats monopoly control of city hall has to end. But the stupid fools keep voting the democratic party line come election day. The exact same sad, sickening situation has been playing out in most other older northern cities like St Louis, Milwaukee, Toledo, Cleveland, Buffalo, Newark, and Baltimore. Come election day in these and most other northern locales, the damn fool voters blindly vote the democratic party line and it is the same old shit for the next four years. Go figure.

Do you really think its that simple? If democrats hold the keys to "stupidity", then what do republican have, intelligence?

The northern urban economic model has for over a century been rooted in manufacturing, which has been decimated by corporate incompetence and so-called "free" trade with other countries. I was a member for years of the American Production and Inventory Control Society in Ohio and West Virginia. These guys (and they were mostly male industrial systems engineering types) did not complain about politicians or unions. They recognized that the main problems were the inability or unwillingness of core industries to adapt to a changing market, and unfair business practices of overseas competitors. Mayors and city councils really did not enter into the conversation.

    Thank you.
The older northern cities like Detroit need to stop voting the democratic party line like they have been doing for the past 60 years. You can't just blame Reaganomics and free trade for the cities decline because most of them were in steady decline long before the supply side policies of the 1980s. It is the corrupt, incompetent democratic party that ruined these cities with their excessive taxation, and endless pandering to both crooked organized labor and the unmotivated urban poor. The democratic party is largely responsible for these cities urban decline and the serious problems caused by that decline. Another major factor was the court ordered busing of public school students to achieve racial balance, that really chased out a lot of middle class families both white and black to the suburbs. Thank the ultra liberal judges for that horrendous one.

Of course there is an element of truth in what you are saying. But don't you think there is an element of truth in the fact that these cities declined due to the failure of their large corporations to compete internationally, both due to their own incompetence and an unlevel playing field?

The problem with putting the blame on a political party is that the example cannot be consistently applied. Democratic cities are among the biggest failures, but also among the biggest successes. Busing strained some cities, but others thrived in spite of it. Economics and urban dynamics cannot be simplified to fit one's ideological pleasure.
