When no gender fits: A quest to be seen as just a person

Kelsey’s gender identity is “non-binary.” Or, “agender.” It’s what Kelsey feels comfortable with, even though the world keeps insisting, in a million little ways, that Kelsey has to choose.

    article:
"What Kelsey Beckham really wants is a shirt that communicates something very specific about its wearer. Not about gayness, or anything to do with sexual orientation, but about gender. A shirt that says the wearer is something many people aren’t familiar with: Not a he. Not a she. Not a male transitioning to a female, or a female transitioning to a male. A shirt explaining that Kelsey, 18, doesn’t identify with any gender at all."

    Problem solved...

So does she want to ride the baloney pony or be a carpet munching scissor sister or both? That was never discussed only her OkCupid account in which she reluctantly checked female.

I know sex and gender are two different things but they are very close cousins.

All I know is if it were my child I wouldn't be fucking around with her hormones. If she still felt gender neutral after graduating from college she could pursue whatever medical treatment she wanted on her own nickel.

Could the problem be the rigid stereotypes that various segments of society like to proclaim as "normal"? Hell, be yourself - who cares? Labels can serve a purpose, but they can also become handcuffs.
