Croatia may turn old gulag into gay resort

Only a few abandoned prison buildings stand on the uninhabited island of Goli Otok, which translates to the Barren Isle.

    yeah, hvala

and "goli otok" more accurately means "naked island" so I guess a gay resort would be the perfect theme for this area

Croatian men are very good looking. I used to play water polo in high school and they always win the top honors at the Olympics and European sports competitions.

When the country was still Yugoslavia, the would always be the top athletes on the Olympic teams.

The Croatian guy from ER was pretty hot, too ! icon_smile.gif

    They got this problem though:

On Sunday, Dec. 1, the people of Croatia overwhelmingly voted to ban "gay marriage" in that country. A constitutional amendment was passed by 66%-34%. This was despite enormous pressure from the Croation government, the press, homosexual activists, and even the US State Department to reject it.

Traditional marriage supporters celebrate in front of packed auditorium as vote results are officially announced in Croatia.

Not to mention the areas troubled past. There are other islands where you can go that have better track records concerning LGBT rights.

Dubrovnik is amazing (there in '86) and if you doubt the hotness of Serbian men note that the world's most popular, er, pay per view sites feature Eastern European males. I looked young for my age then and in Prague the spring of '87 a female teacher seeing I was a backpacker at the dock invited me on an afternoon high school cruise along the Danube. No one spoke English but I enjoyed the view, especially that of several muscular boys stripping down to their white y-front bvds to sun themselves for the duration of the cruise as helicopters plied the overhead skies. Most incongruous and absolutely nothing like the grainy, oppressed, inhibited, drab world behind the then-Iron Curtain I expected. Nothing like travel to broaden your horizons - ESPECIALLY to the Mideast. But of course those regions have become LESS safe in the interim.

Sailing charters there are heavily advertised in the boating magazines.

I may be going to Croatia next summer, but I just don't think I could stay in a repurposed gulag...anywhere. It just seems like it would be disrespect for the victims of human rights crimes who died there.

Really Croatia? Descecrating the grounds of gulag victims? Maybe we can make Auschwitz a ClubMed while we're at it.
