Mediums or people who "Communicate with the dead"?

Do you think that it's actually possible to reach out to dead friends/family members with the help of a Medium?

Has anyone here ever done this/ would consider it?

    Just looking for opinions.

I believe legit mediums exist...The issue is finding the genuine from the fake. Then I again, I also do believe in slightly supernatural things anyways lol

No. Once you're dead, you're mind is completely gone. Why hasn't anyone communicated with Neanderthals yet?

Well yeah, we still don't know how consciousness came t be and where does it go when we die. There is also a lot of things about quantum mechanics that we don't understand. Maybe there is life after death? *shrugs* btw Science never discards the notion of an afterlife, god, reincarnation, ghosts, etc. Science simply says that there is not enough evidence.

Actually we have more evidence of martians--we have Mars.

Anyway, short answer, no. Penn and Teller, as usual, did an excellent presentation on their "Bullshit" series on Showtime, that really exposed the entire art of cold-reading, utilized by 'mediums' who claim such things as communicating with the dead, etcetera.

If you want more information, look up mediums on the JREF.org website. I'm sure folks will find some pretty amazing things.

Also wondering if this topic would have been better in the Spirituality sub-forum.

Being a skeptic I await the science; being practiced in dream yoga, I find myself unable to entirely deny the possibility; being practical, I don't find much relevance to it whether real or imagined.

For me it's like asking, do you believe in space travel and my answer is that I believe we ought to concentrate more so on solving our problems here.

If there is anything to it as it is usually presented, I suspect 99.99% of that is fraud not worth a look. The only part of the remaining 0.01% that I pay any attention to is my own experience in dream yoga about which I maintain a skeptical vigilance and I never share those details. I seek to form no conclusions but like other dreamers, I am born an explorer of consciousness so there I study, sometimes finding it enlightening, often finding it entertaining.

But if you insist, you might find these people somewhat interesting...

I had an experience where I was able to communicate with my deceased grandmother when I was a child.

It was through a dream where my grandmother was in our backyard standing among the clothes that needed to come off the clothes line. The only thing was the clothes were white sheets. One sheet blew over my grandmother and I saw my cousin April stand with her. Then they both said "we love you" and I woke up.

I told my dad about the dream and he only replied "interesting". Two days later my family was notified my cousin April died from complications of cancer.

I believe that spirits do exist after death and they can come back and speak to us. Some people are able to tune in and others are not.

I didn't used to believe in Mediums or anything like that(I'm actually not sure if I do now) But, recently I've been curious. Probably since I actually have someone close to me that has died and have unanswered questions and stuff. The only thing is, how do you know who is real and who is a fraud?

My mom, who is by no means spiritual or a believer, visited a medium as she had a free pass from her best girlfriend.
She took my sister, and the medium had to usher them into the sitting room, as "many spirits" wished to convene with the two of them. They both know a lot of dead people, and have a lot of loss in their lives.

Both of them were absolutely bewildered by what the medium had to say, at once "guessing" the names of my mother's late ex-husband and grandmother, and making a prediction (which later turned out to be pin-point accurate), regarding my sister's future husband, and exactly where he lives and the exact address (before they even knew each other). The entire sitting was all written, documented.

My sister's dad told her to stop listening to the same album over and over again in her car... which was true, she had been doing that for years. He also said that every time she crinkles her nose, he's around?

The only off-kilter prediction is that apparently, I get a red-headed girl pregnant with a broken condom. :s LOL.

    How crazy is that though?!?!
That's a little more than a few lucky guesses.

That show Long Island Medium kind of reinforced my belief but, it could all just be for tv. So...

    +1

I don't believe it right now because of that same reason. If they had the power to communicate you wouldn't need a stranger collecting money to do the job.

But, if there is only a few people with the ability to "communicate with the dead" then they would have to.
