I am just starting out lifting and stuff. What is whey protein? What kind of supplements should I start with? What is creatine? What supplements do you recommend?

whey is a protein that is quickly absorbed (alternate to casein, which takes longer for the body to absorb). of course there is a more complicated description, but that as the basicness of it. creatine is like an energy supplement for muscles. as for what to take, regarding brand, that's really up to you. just make sure there isn't a shit ton of sugar in it. there should also be at least 20-30 grams of protein per serving. whey is the preferred type after workouts because it is more quickly absorbed. casein is good right before bed as it is more slowly released and will also help make you less hungry when you wake up.

whatever you do, remember that a supplement is that, a SUPPLEMENT. do not replace a well balanced diet with them. obviously there are exceptions, but your diet needs to be the most important aspect. i'll stop now. hope i helped icon_smile.gif

I would tell you to start logging what you eat using MyFitnessPal or similar. That way you will know exactly how much protein you're getting from your diet and then you can decide if you want to supplement that. I drink a protein scoop in Silk almond milk sometimes but I've also learned to eat a lot more salmon/chicken/eggs/cottage cheese/whatever.

I just got some creatine because a friend wouldn't stop talking about it. That's probably the worst reason to get something now that I think about it. I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be doing for me. Yeah, I'm gonna Google that...

I have read that most other supplements are unnecessary and many of them don't really do shit. Do the diet good, lift and do some HIIT cardio and you'll soon be in a much better place icon_smile.gif
