I'm a member with 24 here in Vegas. 24 must have been here since back when Fremont was the strip. I've been to 4 different 24s (E. Sahara, Craig, Cheyenne and W. Sahara) They are all well equipped and well cared for but it's pretty obvious none of them are new.

Las Vegas Athletic Club and Golds are the other big names in Vegas. I know a bunch of people who go to LVAC and say it's awesome. I hear memberships there are dirt cheap but they ask for 2 years up front or something like that. It's still a good deal from what I understand. Golds seems to be falling apart. I know the one on Craig is no longer 24/7 and that has cost them some members.

The 24 I go to is showing its age but there are some highly dedicated members there of all fitness levels and various ages. My fav member is prob this one lady who is just very plain Jane. She's prob about 42yo, 5'6", white, little bit of a tummy, nothing trendy about her glasses or her hair style. She looks like a computer nerd or a school administrator. When she's in the gym she knows exactly what she's doing. She doesn't stand around bull shitting with all the gum flappers. She put-puts around the gym doing her thing like she's the only one there. The most awesome thing about her is she wears these sassy little cheer shorts and tank tops with NO BRAicon_eek.gif Either she thinks she has no boobs or maybe she just doesn't care. They're not massive but them puppies don't know how to sit when you take them off their leash either. I try to name the people in my gym unless I actually know their real name. I named her Peggyicon_wink.gif

Ballys is my gym and I am luke warm about it.
The price is OK and because I travel it's nice to be able to go to find one when I go to other cities.
Some of them could certainly be cleaner but generally they are OK.

Recently left Gold's Gym. Only out for your money, no concern in helping you. Don't sign thier contracts.

Going to a small local club called Scott Fitness. Love it. No kids, very little cruising. Nice place to unwind and work out

    Equinox and NYSC

    Love EVERYTHING about Equinox

    the facilities

    the cleanliness

    the MEN

    NYSC

hate that its such a monopoly based business

too many people at the flagship locations

the soap in the showers are so cheap

    the lotion sucks

its a toss up if the facilities will suck or look good depending on the location

Equinox is over the top. I love it. But I am no longer with them.

ARC #1 Fitness facility in America (for probably like another month).

    24 hour fitness

    I love that's its open 24 hours

    I hate the music.
I hate that every time I sign up for a fitness evaluation I never hear anything back from them.
I hate that sometimes the soap dispensers in the locker room are empty and you have to go sink to sink to find one that has at least a little soap in it.

At least the people that work there are nice though some late nights I don't see anybody working and wonder if they just left the door open for people to come in.

    LA Fitness (http://www.latifness.com)
    Lifetime Fitness (http://www.lifetimefitness.com)
    Uptown Energy Fitness (http://www.efitnessgym.com)

LA Fitness is extremely well maintained but finds every excuse in the world to close, and has shortened weekend hours. I love the equipment, which is bolted down, but, I don't like the hours as much as some other places. It's a great gym, all things being said.

Lifetime Fitness is top-of-the-line everything: customer service, equipment, facilities; open 24 x 7, 365 days a year. My only gripe with Lifetime is that their equipment is not bolted down, and that they do no have a hip sled, nor a donkey calf raise. Everything else at Lifetime is a notch above everyone else. It's truly a country club atmosphere. They don't miss any details, and their staff is beyond exemplary. E.g., the weight room (which is monstrous, is always very cool, and very well ventilated with tons of air conditioning.).

Energy Fitness is majority-owned by one of my trainers, Sagi Kalev, and the home of many champions, and has a large gay clientele. I've trained with Sagi many times, and love strutting my stuff with "Sig" but often don't get down to Dallas Proper. To train with the most popular fitness model of all time, is always fun, especially when he's your personal friend. The equipment is great, the hours are good, and there is ALWAYS an audience. It IS in The Gayborhood. My only gripe is that there are some pretty weird folks, in such an eclectic part of town. :-) One guy, a nice one, wears green neon shorts, pink neon 1/2 shirt, and is loaded (he's a high end hair dresser), and absolutely is a major fan, but, oh, my...such a queen fairy. LOL. Such is life.

The two biggest games in town here are the Y and the SMDC Fitness Center, which is attached to the regions' largest medical campus. It was built in 1991 for a capacity of about 1000 people - I'm sure they figured it would be mostly doctors, etc. using it. But since Gold's closed, along with a few other places, everyone has trucked on over to SMDC Fitness (which is a nonprofit - which means they have to take in the group home people who sit on the machines and drool while their 'caretakers' sit in the locker rooms and chat on the phone). They also do physical therapy at SMDC, so some machines that people use the most are being used by the Physical Therapists, and the sight of them coming almost makes people RUN to certain machines because they know how long of a wait it will be to get on them. Unfortunately, since it is a nonprofit on a huge medical campus, it sits at the bottom of priorities when it comes to being fixed up, renovated or anything. It drives me nuts when the retarded people arrive at the same time as the rehab people - you might as well turn around and leave because they will be sitting on the machines doing nothing for three hours. The Y here is okay but it's not like bigger cities' downtown Y's which are fun to be at, this one is still the 'good christian' Y and the board of directors are the really churchy people that drive me up the wall.

The good news is that Duluth has recently gained both Anytime Fitness (5 locations) and Snap Fitness (3 locations). So far, Snap Fitness is the nicest, cleanest place I have seen. It's a 24/7 club in a wealthy part of the city; no crazy people, no group home people, no charity memberships; just paying customers who are there to work out. That's my kind of place. There's no gay people who even work out here besides myself and a lot of lesbians so I've given up on the thought of cruising long ago - unfortunately the ones who do are so obvious that you can tell the second they look in your direction (they're wearing eyeliner or mascara or they walk like a woman) that you make extra sure that you don't attract any unwanted attention.
