NEIGHBORHOOD GOSSIP: "He can't be gay, he's into fitness"

I continue to be my HOA (Homeowner's Assn) president in my development here in Kansas and was out and about doing some business when one of my very friendly neighbors told me she overheard a couple of neighbors talking about the HOA and the jist of it was...

Woman #1: "You know the HOA president is gay"

Woman #2: "He can't be, he's into fitness and sports, gay guys aren't into that".

Apparently my neighbor told me they commented about me and my mode of mowing without a shirt and how that shows I'm not gay. I think I must have laughed for 15 minutes after my neighbor told me all this.

What a ridiculous conversation and slanted views!

What? I'd be more surprised at seeing a gay guy who ISN'T into fitness, or NOT showing skin as often as possible.

When our neighbors, or co-workers never see us with a woman, on a date, or marrying anyone - and we're past a certain age - say 40 - they're going to begin to wonder if we're 'not the marrying kind' or 'one of the boys'. As for being physically fit and attractive - many people now surmise that a single guy who takes great care of himself AND is without any women on his arm, has GOT to be gay!

Kansas never has to attempt a humblebrag--take notes.

Yeah, just when you think we've arived...

-Heard a patient tell a coworker I couldn't be gay, because I have wedding band on.

In 2004 I was planning a trip to Athens, Greece for the Olympics. I contacted a travel agent there to ask about available rooms. She didn't know of any, but suggested I might try one of the several gay hotels in town, which would likely have vacancies because "gays aren't interested in sports".

She went on to tell me not to worry about staying in a place like that, since gays would most likely be avoiding Athens completely during the Olympics and those hotels would probably be filled with straight people.

I didn't have the heart to tell her how many Olympic athletes are gay...

    This begs the question:

Were you mowing the lawn shirtless in a square cut? (Still a fan.)

Long term RJ members take note: past threads may come back to haunt you! LOL

Actually I just mowed my lawn this year in a pair of walking shorts, no squarecuts period.

    humblebrag
Subtly letting others know about how fantastic your life is while undercutting it with a bit of self-effacing humor or "woe is me" gloss.
Uggggh just ate about fifteen piece of chocolate gotta learn to control myself when flying first class or they'll cancel my modelling contract LOL :p #humblebrag

Humblebragger HndsmKansan is cool though cause he doesn't bother being subtle.

Yes, well thanks so much for your valuable contribution here, Scavenger. I'm sure Chris will give your little comment the fullest attention it deserves.

How many times have you been banned here, and why do you keep coming back? When you're not welcome anyplace you go - the best thing you can do is slink away quietly.

Thanks for the attention but I'm not Scavenger and Nope, never been banned.

Only going where I'm welcome? That's not my policy. I go places and make myself indispensable.
