Koastal brought the date correction to my attention. This is for the day of the Lazarus party, NOT a week later as I had previously stated.

the preliminary plan is to meet at NOLA Motorsports Park after lunch on Saturday October 25. Go-karts are French Sodi units with a top speed of 50mph. Cost is $5 park entry and $15 per race. Races are electronically timed and you get a printout at the end of each race showing your lap times and overall position. There may or may not be members or clients on the North Track road course (host track to IndyCar 2015) but it's free to go watch from the Event Center balcony.

Sound off below if you're coming in town for the weekend and want to participate or if you're local and would like to. (Locals and those driving in please note how many passengers you can carry since a carpool from the FQ would be more economical (and fun).

    IMPORTANT
This is not a costume event. Plan to wear street clothes appropriate to whatever madness the weather plays out. Closed-toe shoes are REQUIRED and you should arrive sober since they will not let you ride under the influence of anything (50mph go-karts, remember?)
Those with issues signing things, be warned. You will sign TWO liability waivers. One simply to get into the park and the other to ride the go-karts

No. It's too hard to make sure nobody wears something that wouldn't be allowed. People do it occasionally but mostly local groups who discuss at length with the facility.

If you own and wish to bring your own DOT-rated full-face motorcycle helmet you may and any attachments will be allowed so long as they're breakaway. Otherwise they have racks of helmets for you to wear in different sizes.

Y'all have fun. If we come to the party, I'm not sure I want to spend my limited time in Nola driving out somewhere to drive a go-kart. I was hoping for more of a meet up somewhere like the Sazerac Bar at the Roosevelt. I know all these places get old to the natives, but we visitors do like to enjoy what's unique in the city while there.

Or how about a meet up at the bar in the New Orleans Athletic Club like Saturday at 3pm? Great, fun gym but kind of expensive to get in.

no rudeness intended, but if you've got an alternate idea why not post it in the general Halloween thread? There's no reason both events can't happen

So Take1 of the meetup was a bit of a botch job on my part (the park was closed for a private event) but it was salvaged with some EXCELLENT late lunch fare courtesy of Bucktown Burger and Seafood Company. We're going to give it another try tomorrow afternoon since the park (and i ASKED) WILL be open for normal hours so you still have time (wasting my breath here i'm sure) to join in if you're in town and feel the need for speed.

Don't feel bad; I got up a group to go to Blue Bayou Water Park last year and when we got there I suddenly realized it was after Labor Day and they were closed for the season. I felt so bad. Looks like you had a good time anyway. Wish I could have made it.

No, unfortunately that's the closest one. You taking me to the slides next summer or what?
