The Russian government, after passing the laws making it a crime to discuss homosexuality, is now encouraging gangs to hunt down and terrorize gay men. Many have been killed. No one has been arrested or prosecuted for this anti-gay violence nor is anyone ever likely to be. Their are groups who openly discuss how to target and catch gay men, and they use internet websites in Russia to lure in victims, by posing as gay men themselves seeking encounters.

Watch the disturbing HBO documentary on the subject, just aired:

Suggest gay men not travel to Russia.

I just renewed my passport and I was surprised to see that one of the main tabs on the State Department web site is "LGBT Travel." Also, the State Department "fact sheet" for each country has a main heading "LGBT Rights" or some such phrase. I'm not surprised that they have the information, I'm just surprised that it's so prominently featured.

Yeah, I saw a documentary where these homohobic groups hunt gays, and they humiliate by pissing on them or asking them to shove some weird things up their ass while recording it on a video. Then later they post it on youtube. It's really a shithole for gays in Russia these days.

I think I posted this before but the video for the Hozier song "Take Me to Church" is about this topic.

I am glad to see everyone caring now. Russia has a long history with discriminating against anyone who is a little different. They supported the Serbians (the army/government) who basically made the Nazi's look polished and humane.
Is it any surprise they would not treat gay people as regular human beings?

Nothing good seems to come from Russia these days, except those who are lucky enough to escape.

Any national government that freely allows violent thugs to hunt down and persecute and even murder people because of a different natural characteristic loses all legitimacy for existence. I guess the Russian national government wants to be considered a rogue, criminal organization and its head henchman, Vladimir Putin doesn't give a shit what most of the world thinks. This is very similar to the Nazis violent persecution of the Jewish people.
