1. Mental stimulation. I love to write, and the RJ forums give me an outlet, one where I have to compose quickly, typing as fast as I think, an additional challenge.
2. I learn a helluva lot from the guys here, so many being smarter than me on so many subjects. And RJ does have the smartest guys of any gay site I've ever joined (as well as some of the most appallingly stupid).
Both my husband's mother and my own drilled into us this identical adage as children: always try to associate with people who are MORE intelligent than you are, not less. You learn from the former and improve yourself, whereas you only get a deceptive sense of superior intelligence and have no incentive to improve by associating with the latter.
3. Meeting members. I've golfed with some, gone to dinner with them, gone clubbing together, went shopping, attended concerts, spent Pride with one, hosted one at a Thanksgiving dinner with our local friends.
In Key West last week my husband & I had lunch with an RJer we've known for years. This Tuesday we'll be having lunch with an RJer I've never met before, who's here on vacation from out of state. And every guy we meet from RJ is a delight. Even my former nemesis "sharky" is the nicest guy in person. (I wish he would become more active here again)
4. Holding my feet to the fire about my own fitness, which I've been neglecting. I'm not sure I would have rejoined a gym a few months back if being on RJ didn't "shame" me for not attending one for a while.
