So I just got a brand new smart phone and rather than going for something conventional like the iPhone 6 I bought an invite only phone called the One + One - made by a small Chinese company and the amazing thing is it only cost me £270 !!

    It has a 1080p screen-
    great 13 megapixel camera
    64gb storage
    3gb of ram
same processor as the Samsung S5

I could go on and on.

Anyone else here managed to snag one ? It's a really gorgeous phone.

"Invite only"? What's that. According to google £270 is US $432. That seems like a lot of money for a phone to me.

The phone I'm eyeing is the new Motorola G. Its specs aren't as good as the one you got but it's only US $180 / £112. Unlocked and has a microSD slot.

Not that I need a new phone but I have two; one with phone service but it's turned off and sits in the car and has a low res display that annoys me. The other one is my mp3 player and has no phone service and a nice screen. I'd like to replace both of them with one.

    Invite only explanation:

The phone looks okay, and price is decent. Don't compare android phones with overpriced iphones. Any kind of phone is cheaper in comparison to iphones.

"Invite only" is a good strategy to create niche since hardly anyone knows about the phone. But I don't this kind of model is good for a long run. Let's see the kind of reviews it get. I remember something similar in the case of an Indian tablet company. They had the same concept, but later on when the product came out, it recieved really bad reviews.

I got my Moto G on slickdeals for $60, and that price has come back around a couple times. You have to rip off the carrier selling the phone and unlock it yourself, and it may not transfer to the carrier of your choice, but then again it might work out for you.

Overall, I've been happy with it, though it's not fancy by any means. I think it's also officially my best camera now; I took my avatar selfie with it. icon_smile.gif

Yeah it's a show off. I only buy new things when the old one is broken or not updated anymore and become useless or there is something new that can make my life easier. That's why buying iPhone 6 doesn't worth the money for me.
However all my computers are apple since far lot more reliable and faster than windows imo and I can use it for everything. Unfortunately Linux is not an option yet :-( So if my phone dies I'll buy an iphone6 but only because they update phones up to 4 years maximum...icon_evil.gif
So GO LINUX! As soon as you're supported everywhere I change to linux/android combo.

Sony stopped making vaio machines and next year you won't be able to update your phone anymore means can't update apps either. So you can say bye to a perfectly fine cellphone and a great computer (however vaio was always overrated) and go to an apple store icon_lol.gif
All this thanks to capitalism icon_evil.gif

Chinese and Japanese people have their own brands which are at least as good as worldwide brands. Those have the most innovative techniques and you can buy those relatively cheap but unfortunately they sell it nationwide only :-(

Yes there are lots of weird/wonderful smart phone variants released in those markets but sometimes the build quality isn't the best.

I did my research with this phone before I committed and I was still pleasantly surprised when I held it at just how nice the build quality it is.

The only downside is support I guess because they don't have the customer service base that a lot of the big boys do.

About quality: They have one quality for export (the market you're talking about) which sucks and the one for themselves (or for Samsung, Apple etc.) and that is professional. I bought an ice tea the other day and export only was written on it icon_confused.gif

Nexus 5 is still a decent deal. 32GB model is going for $400. But I would hope that google drops the price soon. It's already a year old. Only Apple can get away with charging full price for old tech. icon_wink.gif
