It was a "yard sale" (actually mostly indoors). We started around 6 AM, first getting a couple gallons of coffee my husband & I donated.

Then we brought along more of our own stuff stuff for the sale, on top of what we had already provided over the preceding weeks. Along with 32 bundt cakes, that my husband has been baking over the last 3 days.

We made several hundred dollars on the bundt cakes alone, and several thousand more on the other items. All this goes to HIV/AIDS organizations, associated with our SMART Ride, on behalf of the rider team to which I belong.

I spent about $100 myself at the sale, and got some incredible deals, that might better be termed steals. One of our best friends later showed up, and I told him about 3 of my purchases.

"I donated those," he said. I was shocked at the irony, I had no idea. And then was embarrassed to admit to him what I had paid for them, 1/10th the value of items that were brand new, never used. I told him I owe him dinner. Plus I kicked in more money to our SMART Ride fund.

Anyway, we're exhausted now, running the sale along with friends. I told my husband we're getting too old for this. We can continue to assist these causes with money, and donate things in cases like this yard sale, but actually running it is too much.

Oh, and here's what I got:

An 8-foot diameter beach umbrella, with gay rainbow panels, for $5.00!

As I said in the OP above, I learned the original price afterwards, and the donor confirmed it was brand new, never used, as I had thought. He got it ON SALE for $55, gawd knows what its original value was.

Plus I got 2 brand new, never used fabric beach chairs in shoulder bags, for $8.00! I subsequently learned their original combined price was nearly $100. OMG! And I got some other steals, too. The art of attending yard sales.

My purpose with the beach umbrella and chairs is to entice my husband down to Haulover nude beach, which is just north of Miami Beach. Because there's no shade there, you need to bring a big umbrella. He doesn't need to get naked, but I will, as usual. We'll see if my plan works. icon_biggrin.gif

And we'll also use the fabric chairs at all the booths we staff at outdoor gay events. We did that again just a couple weeks ago, using our own folding table and 10'-by-10' canopy we own for that purpose. But we end up sitting on folding card table chairs, very uncomfortable all day long, so this will be infinitely better.

    Okokokok...this was kinda good.

Art -- I hope You can appreciate the pure visual humor here.

SB did a good job on that level.

I don't really know where it is coming from since I don't participate in the political forums.

I am roasted all the time...and if it's clever or just plain funny I will laugh the loudest.

Nothing wrong with being a bit of a cartoon character. I am one. Cartoons make people get out of bed on Saturday morning and make them laugh. Who ELSE can say that???

And I personally would LOVE to be compared to ANYone on "Keeping Up Appearances." Mostlly Onslow or Our Daisy.

I am working with My therapist on that...

I could, if that's all it was. I happen to enjoy the humor on that TV program, along with many Brit comedies. And I post about my own comical misadventures here all the time, I have no hesitation when I think they might provide a laugh.

But SB's extreme obsession with me never ends. And it's not comedy, it's a vicious expression of hatred he's being doing for 6 years. He stalks me from thread to thread, trying to disrupt and derail every one I write. I find that very, very disturbing.

Regardless of intent I always found the Hyacinth Bucket pics, which transcend politics and personal animosities, hysterical. To me those photos coupled with Art's flowery prose writ large 'bout retired life in a gay enclave are an endlessly fascinating window to my near-future. We should all be trolled and stalked so humorously. It would be a sad day for us all if Art stops providing material. How else would we ever get to know someone like him - unless we contact him when we're in town? I know someday I will!

Very generous words, and I will look forward to meeting you some day, as well. But life in a "gay enclave" is not your inevitable fate, I'm sure you will have many other options when that time comes.

My "flowery prose" is deliberately meant to be exactly that, you are correct to term it such. It AMUSES me to write that way. Yet I can also write with terse brevity when I wish.

As I had to do for 25 years, even writing cold military regulations and manuals. Nothing flowery about THOSE! icon_razz.gif

But now I can write to my heart's content, any way I like. And this is what I like. Just be aware I do have other choices, that I sometimes exercise.

And BTW, guys who have met me are often shocked to find I really do speak "flowery" in person, too, when I feel like it, as effortlessly as people chat on the phone. A talent I have, but sadly for which I have never found any useful or profitable purpose. Other than my own amusement.

If you come down to South Florida we will meet. icon_biggrin.gif

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/3754648/

ummm... how is this post conforming to the "truce" you proposed? Do I also get to reach into the past and revisit past threads that YOU'VE posted? If so, the terms of this truce need to be revised. I thought we wouldn't be trashing each other. Did I get that wrong?

Totally agree, love Art. Sorry SB your love of hate keeps you from ever being happy. I don't think that you are a bad person and I'm not blind to your political views but... BUT you are never gonna win on this website so just let it go, leave that "old drunk" alone and find a new path. I know you are gonna say Art is the cause of all this shit, SO WHAT!!!!Just leave it alone. Unless you have a major hard on and I mean sexually, why would you give a shit about this old wrinkled ass man?

Art_Deco: Several people have commented how your flowery prose coupled with my Hyacinth Bucket pictures were quite enjoyable in a non-political, non-antagonistic manner. They may actually be on to something here - a "creative partnership" forged between us if you will. I was simply directing them to a similar, recent thread that they may enjoy since they enjoyed this one so much. Please don't be so hyper-sensitive!

You personally pledged to me yesterday in a private email that you wouldn't use the Hyacinth pics again. Do you want me to post the text here? For others to judge? Those were emails to me, with my replies to you, so I think that is permitted.

My "flowery prose" has nothing to do with what you discussed with me regarding a truce. Nor the matter of what you are now saying some RJ members may consider to be "enjoyable". You made a promise to me, to which I agreed.

Are you going to honor it, or not?

It's true I've come to enjoy your own participation here more than in the past. The better example is an RJ guy with whom I feuded for a while, the 2 of us in epic fights. He became a good friend IRL, for both myself & my husband. I invited him to Thanksgiving with us again this year (he attended last), but he'll be with family. Hopefully we'll see him over the holidays.

I've always been willing to do what you suggest, for 6 years. Ask SB your question.

They are not laughing AT you, they are expressing admiration for your writing style, the content of your topic AND my illustrations. Don't you get it?

My writing style was being mocked, and you know it. It might be different is someone ever complimented it, but they don't, all negativity. As it always is, by you and others. I tried to make the best of it with my own interpretation. Which I doubt made any impression or difference on those who write those things about me.

But I guess like in stories where guys make deals with the Devil, there's always a catch they didn't understand when I accepted this latest truce with you. You told me you wouldn't post any more Hyacinth pics. The catch is that unknown to me you exempted continuing to post links to your OLD Hyacinth pics. As long as you don't post NEW Hyacinth pics to humiliate me, you technically haven't violated the latest "truce" you offered to me in email.

Not that the pics themselves are the issue, which I would find amusing in a friendlier context, but your questionable dealings with me are. Please explain this disconnect between what you led me to believe, and what you are doing. And saying these linked pics were posted PRIOR to your latest truce is laughable. You said no more pics, period. I recall no qualifications or exemptions being made.

Art_Deco: I am living up to the letter and the spirit of 2014 Truce #4. I have explained that my post directing two members who enjoyed BOTH of our artistic efforts as they mentioned in this topic is not me posting more Hyacinth Bucket pictures in your topics. "No more pics, period" means I will not post any more pictures of Hyacinth Bucket in your topics.

Understood. But it does NOT mean you won't post links from your older posts that contain those pics into my threads. Just not the actual pics in my threads. I did miss that trap. You may be living up to the "letter" of the truce you proposed, but the "spirit" is rather lacking with this tactic.

And BTW, the posts of "two members" do not invalidate the agreement I thought we had, after the fact. There was no mention of member "enjoyment" that could modify what we had agreed to do. If you agree to do something, plain & simple without stated qualifications, then you do it.

I would like you to abide by that. The actual "spirit" of our agreement. Will you agree?

    Sure, fine.

So the 2014 Truce #4 is amended to add:

Southbeach will not post links to prior Art_Deco topics.

    Is that satisfactory?

Yes, subject to how I see you put your latest verbiage into use. I presume prior southbeach1500 topics are also included that reference those pics, or linking posts by others containing the same?

Of course, I realize others may pick up your mantle, perhaps at your urging. That's OK. I just want you to abide by YOUR agreement.

Oh, so I can't post in my own topics either if they include a post of yours and also include a Hyacinth Bucket picture?

OK, 2014 Truce #4 is further amended to add:

Southbeach can not post to his own topics previously created prior to 2014 Truce #4 IF such topics include either a post by Art_Deco and/or a Hyacinth Bucket picture.

Fine by me. I'll abide by the same for you. Now the fun part will be watching you getting around that latest provision, as I expect you'll attempt.

If you do not, then I can foresee the basis of a more durable peace. But the ball is now in your court.
