I just wonder... does the location where the person grew up with affect what racial preference a person might have and therefore listed on their profile?

like would a country guy raised in not diverse country side be less interested in people outside of their race?

This is just a theory I have, I doubt I can ask people on grindr and make a survey LOL.

maybe okcupid should do a statistic on this

Culture will have a significant statistical influence on individual interests and compatibilities; location will be a key factor in statistical distribution and intermingling of cultures.

So yes, but it's probably not going to be meaningful as a simple yes/no survey.

Edit: There's a good chance I misunderstood your question, but I do still think you'd find that geography will be a mostly indirect indicator unless you're looking at large enough areas to lose individuals entirely. Once you get fine-grained enough to observe individual variations, you're looking more at subcultures than locations, and even then you won't always find a very strong correlation with individual tastes.

Humans are attracted to what they're used to/ feel comfortable with, it's something unconscious. That should answer your question.

Yes. If you are born in a country where the majority is white, everyone is gonna prefer whites because it's something they're familiar with. Why do you think most people from North America go for whites or "light skinned" Latinos?

I don't know. My best friend I grew up with (a White guy) would only sleep with Black men. He messed around with a couple of White guys but he was just never that into them. We grew up very similar.....both from Fundamentalist families and both in the same small town. Although his family was a lot more narrow minded than mine. I remember his mom was pretty racist but mine were not. It worked out great for us when we went out together because we were never in direct competition with each other. Some things you just can't figure out, especially when it comes to sexual attraction.

Was your friend a bottom? Then the answer of his preference is easy icon_lol.gif

There are less whites in America then black and Latino, so explain that

If by America you mean USA then according to wikipedia there are 77% of whites

We were just platonic friends and never had any interest in each other, but from what you told me he was very versatile. He seemed to enjoy topping as much as bottoming. Although I don't understand why being a bottom would make him more attracted to Black guys.

My bad I hit delete instead of edit, misread the article indicating the largest minority race, not the largest race regarding population

    Thanks Dave3k

That's counting a lot of latinos as white. If you're drawing an ethnic distinction there it's less than 63%; add Mexico and Canada (not to mention the rest of Central America) and caucasians do become a large minority in North America.

Im lost about he white latinos thing. So guys like him wouldn't count as white because they're from Latin America?

That may be true. When I lived in Asia, I was attracted to only Asian men. Now that I live in the LA where it's very culturally diverse, I'm attracted to all sorts of men as long as they meet my preference.

Scratch what I wrote. And I don't want to bump the thread, so I'll just replace my previous post:

    * kxd7 made a more or less meaningless and completely unverifiable claim about North America
    * jo2hotbod made a technically incorrect claim which is closer to the truth about North American demographics than anything the rest of us said, but not true to US demographics
    * david3k gave the less relevant of two numbers (though either is sufficient) from Wikipedia to disprove jo2hotbod's claim *if* it was about the US only.
    * I tried and failed to demonstrate that jo2hotbod's point was actually somewhat valid for North America as a whole (though it is)

...which is why I ultimately realized there is nothing about this tragedy of errors worth salvaging. Consider everything I've said on this subthread withdrawn. icon_rolleyes.gif

Didn't read thread, but as with every race thread, there's gonna be so much misleading going on by those who benefit from the racial hierarchy the way it is...

...that all I have to say to minority guys who prefer white guys is that they better not settle for any less to achieve this, because they're shooting themselves in the foot by making themselves even less desirable to their preferred race.

Most Latinos are white. Latino is not a race. And I said North America, not just America.

There's no rhyme or reason behind this. Guys are attracted to whoever they're attracted to.

Sure their upbringings could have some influence, but I don't think it's the only/main factor.

Well of course? Your perception of beauty is based on what you have been brought up to pernceive as beautiful (along with an element of a biological attraction to symmetry and some other stuff).

I think it's rather true. You see people only attracted to caucasians almost only in Europe and North America.
Growing up in France, I was like that too (only white people are depicted in French medias). Then living in Japan, I became interested in Asians too.
In Japan, so many guys told me that they are only attracted to Japanese guys. An Indian guy also told me that for him, Caucasians were ugly and looked like albinos.
I also met two Japanese brothers that grew up in Nigeria. They told me they were only attracted to black girls (when most Japanese people are really racist towards black people)
Then of course there is also many exceptions.

I grew up in the southern part of the United States and even though it was the South, the area/neighborhood was very diverse. My high school class looks like a Benetton commercial. So race was not a factor. You dated whomever you found attractive.

Possessing ambivalent views on politics and slavery, and even benefiting from slavery itself despite being Northerners, while providing the environment for the promotion of scientific racism, I think this was what white was in this 1860's photograph of a current and four past Harvard presidents (all four of whom had been born in the late 1700's):

    HarvardUniversityPresidents1829-1862.jpg

Notice the facial features. They sure don't make them like this anymore.

lol. you be surprised. i havent make a lot of threads on people crushing hotties in high school. but there were some old threads already, by old members who dont get on anymore. so a new one might be needed for the new population.
