This isn't about me (I actually dislike having my picture taken), but rather an observation I've made about some of my Facebook friends who seem to post a half dozen selfies a day. And what's interesting is that none of them are doing anything particular or out of the ordinary to warrant it, and unfailingly they have the same "camera face" regardless of the occasion. These aren't 14 year-old schoolgirls, but fully grown, professional gay men.

Maybe I'm missing something, but to me it almost seems like something compulsive or narcissistic. What do you all think?

It is 14 yr old girl behavior. This should go under the forum Name something you dont like about being gay. Sounds like these guys fit the bill.

It does sound a little odd, but maybe they are just having fun with it for the moment and the "selfie craze" will pass.
I'd probably not say anything unless it goes on and on.

It's harmless fun. If you've got it, flaunt it, basically! I'm guilty of the whole selfie thing on Instagram, so yeah...

    You mean the infamous pout?

I'm not sure what's worse: women, or gay men doing it icon_razz.gif

" These aren't 14 year-old schoolgirls, but fully grown, professional gay men. "

My best friend is a 48yr old with two Ph.D.s and a responsible career. But he's started dating anew and now he's acting like a 14 yr old schoolgirl. Either he's taking a selfie or asking me to be his personal documentarian as he records such magical moments as ordering lunch.

    Comical sadness.

We could use a few more widely-distributed selfies of bodybuilders and porn actors. But of the average hoi polloi? Enough already.

My favorite is people in restaurants taking pictures of their food. Ok, it's a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, so what?

pazzy saidfunny thing is that "selfies" is just a recently word for something that has been going on for years BEFORE the word even got popular like that. pretty sure a lot of people that had a camera phone 10 years ago when having a camera phone was the biggest thing at the time took selfies... icon_lol.gif or taking pictures of shit.

now it's lot easier to share it with people who don't care.

Hmm I think that if it's their facebook or Instagram account, then they can post whatever the fuck they want. Why should you or anyone care instead of getting a life or minding your own business?

Eh, I don't know. I feel it's kind of the norm these days. A lot of the people I'm friends with on Facebook post them and it's gotten to a point where I just got used to it. The only thing that annoys me about them sometimes is when the person obviously looks good, nice, etc. and they put the captions something like "I feel so ugly today" or something along those lines. Makes me roll my eyes lol.

With that said, I do take a few selfies but not as much as I used to. I pretty much do it like once every 1-2 months and pick out the top 3 or 5 I like the best. And I'm also doing it to net my progress of my workout regimen but I don't think that's a selfie really, it's more of a chart type of thing. lol

Oh God yeah, I hate that too. If you felt ugly, then you wouldn't be posting pics of yourself online in the first place. Can't stand the social media attention whores.

I have nothing against selfies. But not if the person gets repetitive. Same facial expression. Same pose. Same locations. Just different days or hours. It's made me realize that even good looking people are just as boring as everyone else. icon_lol.gif

FOOD PICS are not in the same category of self absorption.

What are you cooking? What are you eating? Send a pic to one or two people who might care to know.

Avoid posting it to the world, unless you're famous and your fans want to know.

My friends think i am a selfie whore, when I don't take many selfies, more friends taking photos of me. I hate the self absorbness that comes with people that take too many. 1 or two a day is fine if youre somewhere interesting, but really... Traffic selfie?

Most of this selfie craze comes from a place of insecurity.

I used to take more selfies than I do now. My reason was different though. Every time I would lose more weight I would take more pics. Now that I have been staying about the same weight, 168 - 172 I only take them once a month. I recently lost a couple more pounds but no sense in taking more until next month. It is interesting looking through my pics though seeing progress.

I believe in the inverse of the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words," meaning that I'd rather read or hear the thousand words telling me how great or terrible the food was. You're not really engaging with people when you just send them a picture.

    Hi Dan, you're old.

I hate the stupid shit that kids do today; fucking hate pop music (I-G-G-Y...). I'm aware that my parents hated my generation (didn't everyone wear KISS makeup?).

Log out. It's the only dignified thing you can do. Remind yourself of your 401(K), how you don't get injured doing CrossFit, that you avoided Shakley and LandMark, got vaccinated, paid off your college, your car and your own awesome home.

You've had your abs for decades, before these little shits were born. Hell, it's probably their siblings that got shot all over your back before their dad realized he was straight.

Everything you've had, will have, is awesome. And think of it: your KISS action figures are worth--practically--dozens.
