"Apple CEO Tim Cook says he's proud to be gay.

The public declaration, in an essay written for Bloomberg Businessweek, makes Cook the highest-profile business CEO to come out as gay.

Cook said that while he never denied his sexuality, he never publicly acknowledged it, either. The executive said that for years he's been open with many people about his sexual orientation and that plenty of his Apple colleagues know he is gay.

Cook wrote in the column published Thursday that it wasn't an easy choice to publicly disclose that he is gay, but that he felt the acknowledgement could help others.

"I've come to realize that my desire for personal privacy has been holding me back from doing something more important," he wrote.

Three days ago, Cook challenged his home state of Alabama to better ensure the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community." [At an Alabama Academy of Honor ceremony at the state capitol]

GOP Sen. Ted Cruz Says Tim Cook Being Gay Is His 'Personal Choice'

Glad to hear the news... and maybe more will continue to come out. It certainly helps and continues to modify the mainstream straight public's views on gay men and women.

Note that Cruz means Cook's personal choice to BE gay, not his personal choice to SAY he's gay. The Right continues to insist that being gay is an objective choice, and so therefore cannot be elevated to the status of an inherent civil right.

"Those are his personal choices, I’ll tell you I love my iPhone," Cruz said, according to The Hill.

"Listen, Tim Cook makes his personal decisions, and that is his life. My focus is on the constitutional question of who has the authority to make decisions," Cruz also said.

During the interview, Cruz chose to pretend no state chose to extend marriage to same-sex couples. He falsely claimed that the U.S. Supreme Court, by choosing to not review any same-sex marriage cases, "effectively striking down the laws of 30 states was wrong and it was judicial activism."

When challenged, Cruz, flustered and stammering, blurted, "Perhaps you are not understanding my position."

What the Supreme Court did was the opposite of "judicial activism," because there have been no conflicting rulings at the appellate level.

David Ferguson at Raw Story notes that "Cruz wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to make it impossible for the Supreme Court to overturn state laws denying same-sex couples the right to marry.

only my belief; but Cook and locally in Denver the Gill Foundation have contributed million$ to the gay agenda. We have gone a long way so fast despite the GOP.

    Get out and vote.

I thought he was already out. He has always been vocal about our cause and equality issues in general. Good man. Also says a lot about Steve Jobs.

It was generally assumed Cook is gay. But he himself never addressed it, as he says in his statement. This is his first public confirmation of his own orientation.

But Apple itself has always been gay friendly, beginning under Jobs. It's not surprising Jobs would select a gay to be his successor. Not BECAUSE Cook is gay, but because being gay didn't disqualify him from consideration.

I'd rather he just put the period (.) on the same keyboard page as the letters.

Press is hyping his outing like he is the first person to be out at work, some sort of 'pioneer', a true first outing has already happened, in sports. There have been plenty of out homos at Apple company for years. This man, however brave in his job title, many many real workplace pioneers have come way before him which he hasn't contributed much to in the last quarter-century, the true workplace pioneers have not received any recognition at all for their 'down in the trenches' efforts

When the rich and powerful do something as a precedent, everyone takes notice, "grass roots" never starts at the top and never "trickles down", day late and dollar short Mr Cook, he can thank the little people for his ability to come out icon_rolleyes.gif

And for the rest of the story

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2014/10/30/barney_frank_praises_ted_cruz_for_position_on_gay_marriage.html

"BARNEY FRANK: Can I make a point of what's the most significant politically and shine on the progress that we've made in LGBT issues? Ted Cruz is one of the most conservative people in American politics. He just made a very important statement that you quoted, that you ran on the air, which he said if a state wants to have same-sex marriage, that's okay.

That is an advance over the conservative position of just ten years ago. After Massachusetts declared [gay] marriage [legal] -- George Bush a more mainstream Republican, not one of the more right-wing ones, asked Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to prevent the states from doing what Ted Cruz now says states should be able to do... So even Ted Cruz's position, as I said he's the leader of the right in America, he has -- he represents an evolution in favor of allowing same-sex marriage."

...NEW! With extra power-bottom feature! Super fem! Acts out every cliché you can think of! NEW!

Congrats to Tim Cook to publically come out. But yet again the press is overhyping it.
TomSOCAL saidI do not care when the rich come out. I cannot identify with the rich. Sure, I would love to be rich, but I want my friends and neighbors to come out. If more ordinary people were out, then we would have a much more tolerant society. The Apple dudes in Palo alto have 9 figure salaries. They are greedy and will not donate their money to charity. So if this CEO is gay, why doesn't he donate 100,000 dollars to every glbt community center worldwide?

"The rich" and powerful can be a rolemodel for the less fortunate. His coming out may even inspire some to come out themselves. So why talk it bad?

WOW. Apple ceo is a homo. That is awesome icon_smile.gif. I know there are more gay people out there in powerful positions, but they might not want to be out as to sacrifice that power on the altar of civil disobedience. WOOOHOO. icon_smile.gif. I love coming out stories.

Not to mention this puts another whole in the argument that closeted men love to make. People shouldn't come out because it will ruin their career. You don't see any openly gay CEOs of fortune 500 companies.

The difference between Tim Cook and many guys is that he wasn't in the closet. I think a lot of closeted guys don't realize that being out isn't a daily parade. Its really more business as usual.

He's only gay because he can get younger tail. So many old farts are like that. When they are in their 20's they are homophobic but as the cross 50 they realize the younger chics are not interested in them or only interested in their money. Hence they embrace their homosexuality urges when they are older so they can get hot sex .
