Texas Teen Lured To Park By 'Friend' Then Viciously Beaten Because He's Gay

Two weeks ago, 17-year old Dylan Beard was lured to a skate park in Baytown, Texas by one friend, then beaten by others. They called him "faggot," and "booty lover." They broke his nose, punched him, kicked him in the ribs, and left him with chipped teeth, severe bruises and lacerations on his knees, elbows and face.

You hope this kind of bullshit is diminishing, but I think it shows there are many ignorant people out there and we should all be alert to where we are putting ourselves and what we are doing.

As long as the homosexual people are oppressed, things like this will go on. This type of shit makes me sick. Why do straight people hate us so much, what did we do to them? I guess for me, its just a reminder that as a gay man, I am part of an oppressed minority. I am not ashamed of it, quite the contrary.. As a black man I know that oppression isn't about race or religion or class or even sexuality, but it is about the cancer in the human soul that allows such brutality to take place.

This violent gay bashing occurred in Texas probably the most intolerant, ignorant state in the US. Go figure.

Man. Ignorance and fear reign on. People think that gay young adults and kids today have it easier than we did 30 years ago. Clearly it's different. Not easier. Shame and doubt will be with us for at least one more generation icon_sad.gif.

If he has support, he might be able to fight back under Shepherd law. But the cattle are way out of the barn. Sad statement on our so-called civilized society.

Of course this is a hate crime; the kid was targeted because he is gay. The trash who attacked him should be sitting in jail right now, and their parent's assets frozen pending a civil case, which would be easy to win if the cops and local attorney general would get off their ass and proceed with winning the criminal case.

Bullies are always cowards, but working in wolf packs they feed off of and cover each other, so there is no way he could have defended himself short of carrying a pistol, which a kid can't do, even in Texas. I hope he gets justice from the court, but since it is Texas, that may not happen unless the Justice Department becomes involved, treating it as a civil rights violation.

At least in this case the perpetrators can be easily identified and with pressure on the police, they will likely prosecute to the fullest extent. Feel bad for the kid. Must suck to have no friends that you can trust at a time when he is probably feeling very vulnerable.

Wow tragic! ^^^^.....This reminds me of the Pink Posse in QAF season 4 when Justin (the Blond guy) went all evil with Cody against Straight people. Urg, another reason to dislike Texas, too many homophobes over there.

That's is such an awe inspiring post and one which should provide hope to those who feel the oppression many of us experience at different points in our lives gets too much, even just to provide some perspective to how the haters effect the community

All Texans are raging right wing lunatics whether urban, suburban or rural. That entire state is a fascist shithole of gun nuts and NARROW MINDED BIBLE THUMPING SCREWBALLS.

It is diminishing. But that isn't the real important thing, the real important thing is that its reported and carried by the news so now people are aware.

The 80's and 90's such things took place and no newspaper carried the story unless it ended in a grisly murder.

The Shepperd case changed how the media responded, now they report this news, calls it what it is and people are aware and are doing things to put a stop to it.

From that Hate-Crime Laws have been formed and other things have taken place, such as tolerance training of officers.

Back when #2 ended me in hospital, the police were loath to take a report, one even said right out that a faggot beating up a faggot just right and proper in his mind (Mid 1990's). today a cop says that and they are looking at serious career adjustment.

Back in the day gays who were physically assaulted were pretty much ignored by the cops, and getting decent care at hospital once they found out why you were beaten... not the best of care, lacking compassion and mercy.

I knew guys, saw guys who had been beaten with blunt objects late 80's early 90's, nary a single word in the local newspaper. Today such a thing happens it goes national news.

While it may not be the happiest thing, it clearly is an improvement.
