It runs until 3 AM, but we're old guys. I did go in my genuine kilt as I planned, worn authentically (nothing underneath). The weather was perfect for it. The ultimate commando, I really wish I could wear it more often, it is supremely comfortable.

An incredibly big crowd, projections were for over 30,000 which is quite a lot for our little Wilton Drive, that was closed off for the night. The gay bars became so packed you couldn't get in them. I only managed to have one drink the nearly 3 hours we were there.

Nothing obscene, BTW. The most racy costumes were no less than swimsuits you'd see on the beaches here, and most were quite elaborate, covering more than they revealed. But the originality when gays create costumes is stunning. You'd walk the Drive and see one amazing costume after another, making you stop & stare, and taking your breath away.

And I met so many friends, this is our little community ("gay ghetto" as some disparage it), I was hugging and kissing my way up and down the Drive. One of the reasons I love this town so much. And we do know how to party here! icon_biggrin.gif

Born and raised in Dallas. I use to sneak to the old GLCC youth group nearly 15 years ago when I came out to everyone but my family. I've been to pride on Wilton Drive, didn't like it, and Halloween on Wilton Drive, loved it.

Born and raised in Dallas. I use to sneak to the old GLCC youth group nearly 15 years ago when I came out to everyone but my family. I've been to pride on Wilton Drive, didn't like it, and Halloween on Wilton Drive, loved it.

I used to volunteer at the GLCC on Andrews when I first moved here almost 8 years ago. A great way to get to know the community. I was even honored as Volunteer of the Year. Then I joined their Founders Circle.

The GLCC renamed itself the Pride Center, and moved to a multi-building, 5-acre campus on Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors. It's one of the largest gay centers in the US, I think possibly THE biggest.

Stonewall Pride is always changing, sometimes improving, sometimes not. Largely depends on who's running it that year, and is often in turmoil. Gays can decorate, but we sure can't organize! Like trying to herd cats. icon_sad.gif

Funny, cause just yesterday at noon I had a conversation about this topic with one of the guys who originated Wilton Manors Pride, and what they had to do to make it happen. One of his colleagues at the time said of the bureaucratic obstacles they faced with the City, County & State: "They keep making us jump through hoops. And then they set them on fire!" LOL!

Some of that same group also got Halloween going a few years later, which was easier because of the precedents and experience with Pride. Plus there's no parade to plan for Halloween, and no vendors, although we did have 4 outdoor stages brought in this year, talent to be booked, street cleaning to arrange, security, and lots of other little details you never think about.

But mostly it's just a street celebration that runs itself, once the Drive is blocked off. The gay bars themselves arrange for any additional tents they want in front of their places, and their own outside DJs. But it gets bigger every year, because none of the surrounding towns have anything comparable, even larger Fort Lauderdale.

Some friends sent me pictures of "Wicked Manors" this morning. I didn't feel like dealing with the traffic and I loathe dressing up, so I didn't go.

My husband (whom you know) didn't dress up at all. And I just wore my kilt, fancy shirt and high socks, no makeup or anything.

You coulda parked at our place, that you know, a long 2 blocks away, no traffic issues. And ridden with us to our friend's place right behind the Drive, where we park. I shoulda invited you, my bad. icon_redface.gif

    Oh.

Well that explains why You are walking around in a breastplate and a helmet with horns doing that whole Wagner thing....

A word to the wise; put on a codpiece.

The neighbors are feeling uncomfortable when they see You weed the garden....
