...and I freakin Loved it!! I was VERY nervous - ok: gay man, wrestling straight blokes, unsure what to expect - and I really got into it, there was no worries whatsoever. I'm going back next week! Hooray for me!!

I think there's also some crossover between wrestling and judo.

Indeed hooray for you, glad you're happy. What were the ages of the guys you wrestled?

Dont tell Deco anything! The dirty old troll cunt just wants info for its wank bank.

FUCK OFF sissy faggot, your wrinkly scrawny butt doesn't belong on a site for jocks.

As you can see, this guy's a genuine disruptive troll as most of us recognize. With an empty profile, and no contributions to any health and fitness topics of his own. As you and I have both made here. And I'm a retired US Army Officer of 25 years service. Not a career for a "sissy faggot". Who knows what his own credentials in that department are.

Sorry he's trying to derail your thread. The former RJ Owner/Admin would have banned this guy long ago.

Again, curious about what age range you were wrestling, and if that mattered in any way to you. Please let us know how your future sessions go. icon_biggrin.gif

^^ That's a fair point and I also think coming onto a gay and bisexual men's forum and using the term "Sissy faggot" against another gay man is unacceptable. Reported.

The class tended to be younger guys which again was actually one of my nightmares - in an ideal world I would have preferred it if I had been with another guy my age doing wrestling for the first time. But it was all ok and I was welcomed fine. There was also - and I cannot stress this - very little sexual about it, the force of the moves I was learning ensured that!!!

I think it would be cool to have wrestling as a hobby, not so much the serious wrestling but to be one of the ones doing piledrivers in half empty village halls. I would definitely want to be one of the villains, hitting the other guy with a chair while the ref is distracted icon_twisted.gif

Glad that you enjoyed your first wrestling session and will be coming back for more. Yes, it is hard to find older guys who really want to wrestle, but if you look around the Meet Fighters site or the Global Fight site, you should be able to find someone within driving range of your location, not that there is anything wrong with working out with younger guys if they are willing to wrestle with you and you can keep up with them. The sexual part is all within your head anyway; there is no room for it there while you are actually wrestling and trying to deal with your opponent's moves in real time, lest you get clobbered.

Glad to hear you were accepted so well by a younger group. Sometimes older guys (and you're not really old, just might be in the minds of some younger) get discriminated against.

I also think wrestling can be a great sport. As I said earlier, please continue to keep us informed how this works out for you.

We get too little sports & fitness posts here anymore, it's all US politics and sex life discussions, which I find myself doing, too. My own sports contributions have been in bicycling and golf, and from when I taught college PE years ago, but nothing team or contact. And I did propose the Forum the previous Admin added, "Outdoor Life" [Discuss camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, other outdoor activities], although I haven't put much there myself recently.

Congrats to you for trying new things. Good for you! Helio Gracie was doing BJJ well into his 90s. Wrestling seems more athletic/dynamic but I don't see why anyone couldn't modify the training or techniques appropriately for their abilities.

I'm so pissed that I didn't take wrestling or gymnastics classes when I was younger (at, say, 40).

For me, it's really too late since given their injuries guys my age are quitting recreational wrestling. At 50 I tried learning golf and wound up with a cervical herniation practicing at the driving range so I had to give that up before I could even play on the course.

I thought there wasn't a lot of homophobia in recreational wrestling "leagues" because straight guys into it find it harder to find partners - it's not like the big 8 accounting firms have teams, or one can drop in at any court and take part in a pickup basketball game. Or am I wrong assuming all that?

There probably is some truth in the above, mate. Although I do think if I was in a wrestling class, they found out I was gay, I am unsure I would find a lot of people to grapple with. Maybe I'd find a queue of them!!
