knew there was a firestorm coming and it begins........

Why does there need to be a firestorm? I'm just saying, when I was her age, my only concern was having enough Legos to build my fucking castle.

    Omg such a big heart!

Scruffy at a young age you played with lego…..well what if your parents insisted that you were not to play with lego and they put a bedazzler in your hand and told you little girls are not allowed to play with lego because its a boys toy….

kids are gender assigned at a young age the toys and kids that they play with develops the processing factors in the brain that tells the difference to whether if you're a boy and girl so you shouldn't be surprised when a kid comes up to you and tells you what gender they are especially in this day and age.

Hmmm, I guess I was raised differently. I had dolls at a very young age as well as traditional boy toys. I have photos of myself when I was a young boy playing with dolls (and no they weren't my sister's.) My mom even made clothes for my favorite stuffed bunny rabbit, Frisky, which I still have to this day. I was never herded to play with certain toys over the other ones. If I liked certain toys, I got more of them come Christmas. I guess I got tired of the dolls because there are no photos of me with them past age 8 or so.

Thank "god" the lyrics were provided.

Children are prone to fantasy and role play. If I were a parent of such a child I wouldn't discourage or indulge them. I'd let them explore and see where it took them. Chances are they will abandon the idea on their own if just a passing fancy.

Has this always been a thing or is this new? Either it's being talked about more or it's a new phenomenon

Growing up, we were just kids, not even thinking about sexual id at all icon_rolleyes.gif Never heard all this till now, weird

Now that I think of it I played with mermaids, MLP as well as Lego, transformers and Gi joe so I was a pretty well rounded kid growing up…..why is it so important for this girl to be a boy? why can't she just be a tom boy? who knows I guess this is just what its like to be transgendered, you would need a lot of psychological evaluation

Damn, I really thought the gay-community would have more understanding to those who don't feel like they fit into the norm but I guess not.

I mean, exchange a lot of the content that's related to being homosexual and we'd have a ragestorm. "I don't understand how you'd let your boy do that, lots of children just play, it's just a phase", or "why would a parent do that? I did [x] when I was a child as well and I turned out to be just fine, it didn't mean anything more than that".

If you didn't "think about your gender identity" when you were younger, it is probably because you felt so comfortable in the gender-norms that you had no reason to question it. One's gender identity is something that also comes into at a way younger age than sexual identity.

The same thing happens to many gay men (or sexualities that deviate from the norm) when they get to the teenage years where sexuality comes to matter, realize that they're not comfortable in it and start questioning it.

I'm sure you had some awareness of being male/a boy at that age. Transgenders feel conflict over what they actually are, sometimes at young ages.
