    A remarkable feat!

Safe landing gives scientists their first chance to ride a comet and study close up what happens as it gets closer to the sun.

    From the article:

"But celebrations were tempered by the later discovery that the probe’s two harpoons had not fired to fasten the craft down in the ultra-low gravity. Scientists now think the probe may have bounced after first coming into contact with the surface. Ulamec said: “Maybe today we didn’t just land once, we landed twice.”

That's the problem with landing on a comet or asteroid. Even a large heavy lander may weigh less than an ounce on such a small body hence the problem of making it stay landed. If it had landed too hard without being fastened down, it would have bounced off and never landed again.

The ESA can make a probe land on a comet billions of miles away, but some guys on here complain that they can't even make their probe land in another guy. Maybe their harpoon always misfires and they bounce off?
