Study suggests genetic link for male homosexuality

"The researchers say they found potential links to male homosexuality in a portion of chromosome X and on chromosome 8, based on an analysis of genetic material in blood or saliva samples from participants."

article:
Being gay "is sort of like having certain eye color or skin color — it's just who you are," Zawitz said.

So, nothing we didn't expect but not to be dismissed for some pretty good reasons. One simply being that this is another arrow in the quiver but more importantly is that what seems the result of the research continues in the right direction. How would we feel if we heard there was a sharp turn: that they found no biological basis? So the additional confirmation of what we suspect and have other evidence for is nice. It's like science saying first: I love you.

Most importantly it enhances argumentation for civil rights, for protections against discriminations, etc.; it enhances the argument for acceptance.

By putting on them the burden, it makes it harder for someone to say: I don't like you because of the color of your..................penis.

If the liberals at Harvard find a gene, next they'll start looking for a "cure".

Attention liberals, I don't need to be cured.

When there's a gay genetic test, it will be the pro abortion liberals who murder their unborn babies just as they do now when they test positive for Down's Syndrome.

Did Tim Tebow's mother abort her baby instead of risking her health: NO.

Did Sara Palin abort her baby: NO.

Did Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, U.S. representative for the Fifth Congressional District of Washington State abort her baby: NO.

Republicans, especially the Tea Party variety, are much more ideological than Democrats and progressives. They give the impression of believing what they believe regardless of what evidence indicates:

Sex education and condoms reduces unwanted pregnancies and STD's...
Republicans and Tea Partiers: No. Sex ed and condoms lead to promiscuity and the spread of STD's. (The evidence does not support that.)

Distribution of needles controls the spread of disease among recreational IV drug users...
Republicans and Tea Partiers: Needle distribution increases drug abuse. (The evidence does not support that.)

Gun control reduces gun violence...
Republicans and Tea Partiers: It doesn't. (They may be right there because guns can be brought into states attempting to control them from states that are not, and is why gun control legislation needs to come from Congress, but Republicans don't support that either.)

Genetics is responsible for ones sexuality...
Republicans and Tea Partiers (perhaps most astonishingly): Sexuality is a choice (allowing for their condemnation and persecution of people who are GLBT).

Reason, evidence, data, and logic be damned. Republicans and Tea Partiers believe what they believe.

It would make sense for it to exist on the X chromosome and be inherited from your mother. At least for gay men.
Gay men are an evolutionary dead end, we don't normally reproduce and pass on our genes. So why would a woman want a gay son? Probably because a gay son would help her raise her other children and her other children would be more likely to survive to pass on her genes.
But really who cares where it came from. I told my mother when I came out to her that whether it was genetic or environmental when I was young it didn't matter. Either way I didn't make myself gay.

Not true for outgoing Reno mayor Bob Cashell (Republican) who endorses gay marriage.icon_exclaim.gificon_biggrin.gif

Not true for current Nevada governor Brian Sandoval who also endorses gay marriage (Republican).icon_exclaim.gificon_biggrin.gif

A previous and more revealing study shows zinc deficiency and diminished testosterone in the developing brain cause homosexuality.

I've posted and re-posted this at nauseum everywhere. But nobody is interested, since our community continually wants wants to deny, diminish, discriminate, and exclude the subset of gays, myself included, who are zinc deficient and need vitamins B3, B6, Zinc, and Testosterone / DHEA / Thyroid supplements in order to grow to a full body weight with full muscle tone.

So called "twinks," without question, are zinc, DHEA, Thyroid, and testosterone deficient, since Zinc is required for the synthesis of these.

Here it is, in the British Medical Journal, zinc and testosterone deficient -

You might want to have another look at what you are posting "at nauseum everywhere."

Is that a peer reviewed article or nothing but a peanut gallery comment on an article?

Where it says at the very top PERSONAL VIEWS ought to have been your first hint.

LOL! Read some of the aggressively petulant nonsense put out by Stonewall Democrats over the years and tell me it doesn't remind you of a Stalinist tract from the 1930s. You DID study those in history, right???

As for the genetic factor, THIS GOPer has believed in it for over a decade, after the WSJ first published a story that contained enough facts to convince me of the connection.

Thanks for you posts, Tom & Ignatius. The number of GOPers on this site seems to be increasing, no? Well, we ARE a rainbow, aren't we? Or is RJ a microcosm of society overall? Who'll do the research on that one?

http://health.ninemsn.com.au/healthnews/8930943/gay-gene-discovery-x-chromosome-involved-in-homosexuality

Found this while googling and I think it's discussing the same article.
To be honest, there is still so much of the human genome that even today science still can't explain the functions and influences of and so you never know but homosexuality could be a genetic thing.
I'm kind of hoping it is so that some how in the future, there is the possibility of offering a way to, for lack of a better word, 'treat' it for those who don't want to be gay. As long as it is a legitimate scientific approach of treatment, heck I'd be happy to be a part of the test trial.

Sorry if how I feel offended anyone, of course I always say respectfully to each their own. Live how you want as long as you aren't harming anyone. All I'm saying is that if this ever became a possibility I'd be very, very appreciative.

The British medical journal has a personal views section. That does not mean that the views are incorrect or not based on peer reviewed articles.

For most health conditions there are multiple causes, multiple genes. It is likely that there are many causes of different varieties of homosexuality, ie twinks, jocks, bears, or whatever stereotypical labels one wants to use.

The idea that testosterone is low during brain development makes a lot of sense. Then, when puberty hits, there isn't a pre programmed drive for girls. (um, lesbians? duh!)

Whether or not testosterone and zinc levels would be low as a teen, young adult, not necessarily. Mine were very low in early 20s. That has been corrected with zinc, vits b6, b3, but I'm still gay, since it was genetically pre programmed according to the article...

But when puberty hits, other hormonal things are happening, I mean, why would guys have crushes on guys, even if our testosterone was low in the womb and or as teens? My first was at the age of 11. But why go after other guys? So that's another question for us biologists.

In any case we cannot be made straight with testosterone or zinc therapy since its inborne....just as it is in the animal kingdom....

BULLSHIT.

Makes a lot of sense to whom, the peanut gallery and you? So fucking what. To claim that we're resultant of brain development deficiency, yer gonna to have to show some science, yet all you have is your own speculation based on a personal commentary which was not derived from that person's scientific experimentation.

This is beyond stupid. You are basing your speculation on not even multiple agreeing comments but one singular comment which was not even made on an article of science but was made on an article written by Timothy F Murphy (tmurphy@uic.edu), a professor of philosophy, who wrote about a scientific study "at the US National Institutes of Health (which) indicates that genes may influence homosexuality in males".

Other comments, besides the one you keep referring people to, ad nauseam, include:

http://www.bmj.com/content/330/7498/1033.1/rapid-responses

...Where is the search for a Christian gene?
Certainly Christianity is far more heritable than homosexuality...

...believe human sexuality to be far to complex to ever reach a conclusive 'cause' for homosexuality. Maybe people should just accept its just a matter of taste?...

...A medical student believes that researching the supposed differences between cognitive abilities of heterosexual and homosexual people is pointless, inaccurate and ethically unacceptable as researching supposed cognitive differences between different races. This is a pity
....

So fucking anyone can write fucking anything in there.

You don't even know what the fuck you were looking at.

You attempted to pass off your reference as science but what you have "cited" means shit.

And did you just claim that you are a biologist when you don't even know what the fuck you are looking at when you read a journal? Really? You and that lawyer who doesn't know his ass from his elbow should go have lunch, in Ethiopia. I don't believe this shit. Just go away.

PS. I just googled out of curiosity zinc deficiency plus gay to see if any other of your fellow "biologists" have conducted similarly careful work as yours and come up with the same results....

https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#safe=off&q=zinc+deficiency+%2B+gay

Oh look what's to be found there:

There's one who agrees with you , "citing" your same "source"

TomSOCAL saidyou are an angry, bitter person who is not welcome on these forums, mr. anti-jock who keeps hiding his profile.

There, I just called you out, sir.

You seem confused.

It is not indicative that I am an angry person that I would call out your misinformation when you said that homosexuality is caused by deficiencies and diminishments of the brain. What was that you said again. Oh Yeah, Look here it is:

TomSOCAL saidA previous and more revealing study shows zinc deficiency and diminished testosterone in the developing brain cause homosexuality.

I've posted and re-posted this at nauseum everywhere.

So what you correctly perceived as anger is not an anger which derives from within me but one properly encapsulated within my rightful vigilance. That you don't get to throw your shit at us without repercussion. It's the internets; get used to it.

Further, it is not bitterness that I'd call out your bullshit as to your supposed justification of your aforementioned horseshit.

That you would call us diminished and deficient (in any aspect of living, by the way--that would "turn us" gay) was most certainly not, as you presented, espoused by any scientific or medical journal.

Like when you said:

TomSOCAL saidHere it is, in the British Medical Journal, zinc and testosterone deficient

Which was not a statement in a peer reviewed article as you tried to pass off, but merely a commentary from someone in the peanut gallery. Christ, did you even bother to see if you could find a single solitary doctor or scientist to back up that assertion? Go ahead, take a moment and google. See if you find a single peer reviewed article stating the same thing on the entirety of the internet.

We'll wait a few moments for you to do that.

So that was not my bitterness as you have herein charged, but of my veracity.

Yet, given all of that, you have not even attempted to back up your assertion with verifiable evidence, instead, you have stooped here to character assassination showing how weak and deceptive you really are.

So I guess the only thing I might be guilty of is having presented my material a little rough around the edges. I should have been more polite. I admit that.

Soooooooo,

PLEASE GO FUCK YOURSELF

There, I hope I came off as being more refined this time around.

Friends who have been members here in RJ and left warned me about incidents like the one above. People like this are the reasons all of them left and the reason I'm not going to try to become too deeply involved here.

It's a shame that a few people couldn't moderate their egos particularly on this particular topic. I have some insightful information about this but there's no way in hell I'm going to place myself anywhere near this type of immature behavior.
