We sure seem to have a lot of threads about how depressed and lonely we are, and about things we don't like.

How about some feel good topics?

I vote for an "Entertainment" section on the forums - a place to put all the topics about television, movies, music, games, etc.; a place to discuss the things that we do like and the things that take our minds off all the bad stuff life throws at us.

    What do you guys think?

LOL - Joe, I was just thinking the same thing? I was specifically wondering if RJ just seems to attract a disproportionately large number of guys who are conflicted and/or having trouble with their sexuality and thus everything else seems to be out of wack!

Well, let me apologize for bringing my woes to RJ. If and when I am downing people, please let me know. I try not to, but it is hard to judge oneself.

If they start the new section, maybe there should be a "Bad Poetry" thread. ... icon_rolleyes.gif ... icon_lol.gif

It has been said many times before (though I don't care enough to look up a quotation.) Tales of happy days are quickly told. A proper story needs conflict and strife to hold our attention.

    Bah, humbug! icon_twisted.gif

The "what's good about life" threads tend not to last very long. . . I've tried that. Apparently it's much more interesting and less cheesy to be miserable intead of positive and upbeat.

I think the gym scene, athletics and the masculine identity create a lot of internal conflict for many gay men who are attracted to one thing but confronted (mostly) by another in the gay community. Read how many "straight acting" and "must be masculine" remarks are posted here. Yet, based on pictures and profiles, I see no one here who really fits the idea of "feminine," though I think some here are reading that into it. Hence, there's a lot of unhappiness here that one wouldn't find at a board devoted to musical theatre or Celine Dionne. icon_lol.gif

    That's my psychoanalysis, anyway. icon_rolleyes.gif

To Caslon: You wouldn't be Man of the Week if you were bringing anyone down. The strength you have kept up in your fight against cancer is inspirational to everyone. As a fellow cancer survivor, I applaud you, AND your poetry icon_smile.gif

To Scott_DC: Well, HELLO there. How YOU doin'? icon_wink.gif

To SDTrainer: Exactly. That's why I expect this post to fade away in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Yo, Caslon - I don't think this thread is the least bit directed at you. First, you have dealt with your "problems" with aplomb rarely seen and second, your problem is pretty damn concrete!

    joescorpio...hmmmm....let me take a guess...

If you should see a Scorpio,
    Then, goodness gracious, say hello!
For if his presence you ignore
    He'll soon declare a private war;
    However, if you're over-nice,
    You'll pay an even bigger price;
For once he says your friend he'll be,
    You'll never need an enemy!

I couldn't agree more with you Joescorpio....most things on the forum are complaints, dislikes, what we hate, what sucks, what makes us sad....damn do we need a change of pace.

I tried to post a different/upbeat topic the other day for those who enjoy UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) but like mentioned earlier...it got almost 0 responses....either it wasn't dramatic enough or nobody here on RJ's watches mixed martial arts.

Although i definitely have my difficulties, overall Life is Great...I have a great family that loves me, a partner who loves me and friends that love me and my God has given us all good health. I have everyhting to be thankful for.

Caslon...as far as i know we need more stories like yours. Your a survivor, a trooper in every way. And we wish you all the best man!

In response to the original post...shows I am/will be watching are:
UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Serra vs Huges
I love New York 2-Starting Next Monday

I love RJ. I come here to take my mind off the b.s. life throws at me. I love it when someone is brave enough to ask the questions I won't. Then some of the kind guys on here will give sincere and helpful answers. Sometimes I get caught up in reading the negative threads, but there is plenty else to read, and lots of pretty pictures to look at, too. I love you guys.

I think it's a similar dynamic to the news. Bad news lets us try to fix it or lets us think that we're better than others. Good news lets us say "That's nice" and then move on.

But in this vein, I have to say that I'm inspired by so many here, and Caslon is just one of them. I wish I had the gift of writing like he does.

There are many others here that I find inspiring because of how they have gotten themselves in shape from being either average and a little doughy to on doctor's orders to change or die. All of this is good. (Just look at PSJoey for a great example; I'd like to look like him now!) I know that my getting in better shape because of the support of many here, and it could just because I read your words and have never interacted with you, but you've affected me none the less.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm just as guilty of being a downer on here, LOL.

Everyone had good days and bad days. We just all need to concentrate more on the good stuff!!!

In fact, I'm gonna go start another thread about my weekend fun!

    Joescorpio noticed that lately:

We sure seem to have a lot of threads about how depressed and lonely we are, and about things we don't like.

My impression is that this is just a coincidence. I've been a member here since last Spring, and I don't think there's a preponderance of negative threads. Maybe it's just the end of summer, the days getting shorter, etc.

Not all of the fun, upbeat threads die young. Some that I remember are: favorite books, favorite movies, geek identity, "I'm eating cake", gay pets, and "Why do you work out."

I also like the threads that are connected to the workout programs posted on the site.

The threads I could live without are the ones that get guys banished from the site...sent to the cyber-cornfield.

Hey everyone, life is too short to worry about everything, and to be honest there are too many things to actually worry about if you think about it. Good things happen, bad things happen. The bad things you grow from or learn from, the good things just make you buzz even more.

    Funny stories, ermmmmm?

I just flew back from Japan, had no money, but had too much weight in my suitcase, so i opened up my suit case and put on three tee shirts, two jumpers, two pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, my snowboardjacket and my winter beanie. The japanese lady at the counter didnt know where to look, but at least it made her smile. To be honest it wasnt as much fun as you would think, flying 15hours in all that, lol.

...could tell it was going to be a REALLY bad day!

    I rear-ended a car this morning.

The driver got out of the other car, and he was a DWARF. He looked up at me and said "I am NOT happy!"

So I said, "Well, which one ARE you then?" That's how the fight started…

Please!! NO entertainment forums!!! The last thing this world needs is another venue for people to talk out of their asses about Britney Spears and the latest episode of their favorite TV show.

You may think these forums have too much boo hooing, but at least they have valid intellectual and emotional content.

Besides, Entertainment gossip and chatter doesn't make people happier, it just promotes stupidity.

    Enough said!
