This is a good question posed by metta8 in another thread.

What's your best, most fun or craziest ideas?

Not let unverified profiles post until they get verified. Also, the verification process must be done via video and the person must match the pictures. Sock accounts, spammers and novelty accounts posting break up stories would disappear in like a day.

    Oh, and watermark pictures.

Age issues too, if you're more than 40 >> you're out.

If I knew that, I'd be out setting up social networks icon_wink.gif

On one of these threads, (not this one I guess?) someone yearns for "the gay BB.c" But that site, like a few others, is basically a retail marketplace with a social network lumped on top to act as a marketing department.

The actual money (in that case) comes from selling magic pills and potions, and presumably, targeted ads and infomercials from the manufacturers. The really clever bit, in my opinion, is that BB.c never actually claims that any of these pills and potions actually work. They let the users and the manufacturers supply all of the web site content, and just sit back and skim off the retail markup. (Well, of course, they have an excellent warehouse and customer service operation.)

But how could you emulate that business model without just being a blatant (gay) rip-off of BB.c? I dunno. Maybe add in fashion (ala Jocks.com and Undergear?) Or provide a market place for services like Travel and virtual personal trainers? BB.c has been trying to diversify, but the magic potions seem to be the only thing with real traction.

just clean up the forum, see what you got and go from there. Are any of these forums really profitable: outNation or gaySpeak but for sure they have higher traffic numbers. It would be nice to have an American US based forum remain open. the gay population is getting assimilated into the main stream so it might not be possible to keep it open.

realJock is an emotional wreck and the traffic numbers are lower each month unless they have hit bottom.

changes here are expensive, there is no technical base to make any changes. for example; just a guess there is no software to support the functionality of a moderator.

Seems to work for other sites.

It seems pretty obvious who the trouble makers are.
I'd warn them, warn them again, then give them the heave ho, and not let them come back with a new account.

    Merchandising:

"I verbally abused someone whom I perceive as being less masculine than myself and all I got was this lousy T-shirt", with an RJ logo and the website name.

Seriously, though, once the forums are cleaned up (both in terms of human conduct and server code) I think RJ swag could help remind people that we are real men in the real world with a lot in common, not bickering schoolgirls who have to attack each other from the shadows.

^^^THIS seems to be a consensus.

The merchandising and marketing tie-ins also seem like good ideas for the site.

Jeff, please consider some of the ideas here.

No legitimate need for those type of restrictions. Just start enforcing the existing rules of this website and stop letting violators get away with it. That in itself will solve most if not all of the problems on this site.

I mainly want the user base. The domain name will just redirect to a less pretentious sounding site name. Too bad OutSports.com is already taken.

I am sure at the time it was made the site name was not as pretentious sounding.

Funny when a bitter old toad who is harassing people on RJ is talking about violators, If I would be a whiny squealer just like you are you would be kicked out of RJ long time ago

If anyone would be kicked out of RJ for harassment, it would be you because you are a lowly piece of shit.

    eagermuscle said(Shirtless) Speakeasy password doorman:

This hilarious password scene does highlight a problem I see with many of these solutions: we want to bring more guys into RJ, not keep them out. Putting hurdles in the path does not accomplish that. Rather it shrinks RJ, when revenue is based on advertising rates determined by membership numbers & activity.

What we need are Moderators, to ride herd on the troublemakers. And they represent the smallest fraction of RJ membership. Those guys you can do without, eliminating them selectively based on individual conduct. Do not impose global filters based on arbitrary (and difficult to verify) standards of age or fitness or whatever.

Site moderation will create a more pleasant online experience, and THAT will keep guys here, and bring new ones and encourage them to stay. I really think the few bad guys are responsible for chasing off a greater number of the good guys, and undermining this site. And I've always wondered if for some of them that's their real goal here.

BTW, I love the Marx Brothers! Their movies are mostly a string of vaudeville-like skits, which is how they began on stage, but delightfully wacky, fast and funny.

You know, now that I think of it, forget my suggestions and don't sell this site. The only change I would do to this site?

Get rid of "All Things Gay" forum. Oh, and politics too.

a 1st world problem for sites like realJock, gaySpeak is that most gay men have been out for a few years now. They dont goto gay bars unless they want and dont aspire to live in the gaybro.

Interesting question and I think an awesome one. I'd love it honestly. Advertising certainly is key. I remember when the prior administration wanted us to pay to have "key benefits". I've always taken stock (so to speak) in RJ so I paid immediately. I think they still have you the basic benefits of forum participation free, but the bottom line would be costs, benefits and changes. Remain "static" for long and this site would go by the wayside eventually.

Great question and I'm sure some fascinating answers.
