One of my friends said that he decided to deactivate his Facebook for professional reasons. He works as a Corporate lawyer and he didn't want guys he knew through mutual friends, acquaintances and random co workers to all be together on his Facebook. I kind of agree with him with the fact that in the real world you need to set boundaries and not reveal too much personal information.

It's easy to not have boundaries on Facebook and say something inappropriate and forget that your co workers or boss is also on the website.

I have also noticed more and more people are leaving Facebook these days.

I used to have a Myspace and I was on it all the time 10 years ago, now I just have a Facebook with about 80 people on it. Mostly family in the US and abroad. I use it as a tool to keep in touch.

Did any of you guys delete Facebook permanently? Did you decide to leave Facebook for good?

I had to have an account briefly while I was working with undergrads. Hated every minute of it and deleted it as soon as I could.

I missed a few connections on the way out, but that site is such crap I couldn't stay.

I deleted it like a month ago. Too much drama and just a bunch of people on my friend list that I didn't even know. Waste of time.

Oh and btw, here is where you go to if you want to delete it for good, not just deactivate it.

I signed up a long time ago when it first went public. But only used it to sign up for online coupons.

But I have very little use for it, in terms of social networking. All my family and friends are local. I keep in touch with them the old fashion way.. call/text/visit.

I'm sure if they were spread out all over the country/world, then I'd definitely use FB to keep in touch.

I don't understand the rantings about FB. If it's turned into a time suck, then people probably need to reevaluate what they use it for.

Oh, I still have an account. I look at it once a year or so and never post anything.

I did delete it once, but then I found out that some of my friends and cousins don't even have real email any more. The only way to send them a message is through phazebuk. So basically, I log on when I need to send one of them a message.

Facebook is the devil. Permanently deleted many years ago after I suggested the Pope wash his caustic mouth out with an alkaline bar of soap.

Interesting facebook permitted his quotations condemning homosexuality. However my comment was removed, thus I decided to end this hypocrisy. Besides if someone really needs to know what's going on in my life pick up the phone, meet for dinner, something more personable please.

I haven't been using facebook for more than a year. I deactivated my account, and can't seem to remember my password. I have no intention of going back in near future.

I used to have an account...

Completely wiped it once I realized that it's just a massive data mining platform.

You keep hearing that it's a BILLION dollar company? Yet no one is charged to join? Users don't get charged because we're not the "audience" of Facebook, we are the Data.

"Link your cell phone number so friends can find you." So can everyone else.

A buddy of mine showed me "how cool" it was when he uploaded a picture of him and his family, Facebook was able to automatically 'tag' 8 out of 10 of them. He says "It makes it so easy." I say they are building a facial recognition database. from everyone's "Selfies"...

Stupid little quizzes like "Post your Leprechaun Name" based off your birthdate, another name based off the street you used to live on, another quiz based on seemingly random information... folks don't realize that they are giving away information that can be used to hijack your identity.

I choose not to be part of that data mining exercise.

In that case, you should stop using any google products either which includes very widely used google maps and search.

I like Facebook. My friends are scattered so it's the ideal way to keep in touch. All depends how someone uses their social media.

i never had one. mainly because of employers are sooo interested in how and who your sleeping with.

    this actually happened
At one employ i had the hr lady walk into my office, close the door and ask for my face book situation. A few years down the line the company CED was getting a divorce and fired 3-4 peeps based on fb intel. Not a kind loving world out there.

that is a big positive for web sites like realjock, not that your doing anything wrong but you need to compartmentalize your life.

I shut mine down about three months ago.

I got tired of uninformed assholes arguing opinions, ignoring facts, and posting nonsense.

It's been a bit of a shock to the system, but over all it's been a great decision.

As a professional (CPA) I cannot take the risk of phishing of data - of my clients as well as my own. All my colleagues said all along Stay Away from fb. Never had it. Great to hear from the rest of you how - uh - sensible that is.

I have an account under my real, personal, birth, given, professional name and then NakedBudd has an account (using a different email account) ...and never the twain shall meet.

I think three people know me by both.

https://www.facebook.com/nbudd has 2,259 Friends, but I only "Follow" a select few and I don't play silly games like Farmville, etc.

Never "did" face book. Why would a loner and grumpy curmudgeon (me) want to be on a social networking site. I could give a shiite where my HS class mates are and wtf they are up to. My buds from the neighborhood, HS and college I have never lost touch with. To me it appears to be another opportunity for teenage girls to further obsess about themselves, but that's just me. The Ex spent a lot of time on it but it was important to him so NP/knock yourself out.

I'd do "Ass Book" if someone would just invent it lol. I've been saying that for awhile now though so I guess it's up to me.

Never surprises me how much personal info folks just willingly share to the world. It'll come back to bit ya in the ass.

I was a latecomer to FB and really don't have much of a problem there. It does make me a little uncomfortable to have several clients incorporated into the mix (by their request). Other than that, I rarely have problems and have enjoyed interaction with people I wouldn't have otherwise.

NakedBudd has a LinkedIn account too ( https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=284090385 ) and I don't Friend anybody there because it is for professional/business networking and not everybody is out, but if someone Friends me I am glad to accept. icon_smile.gif

Wisely said... FB tries to get all kinds of personal information, far more than makes sense to put online. I think it has to be approached the right way... for security if nothing else.

Nope never did....or anything else like that. One company I worked for had a team of lawyers that were informed and kept track of employees. New employees were really checked out. Anything can and will be used against you I guess. But, really I just can't be bothered. I wasted a lot less time when I didn't have a computer or cell.

Never have, never will. For me it's RJ for the articles (icon_razz.gif), online discussions, and some "virtual socializing;" City-Data for online discussions and more socializing. Period.

(BTW City-Data is well-populated w/LGB's and you can easily meet nice gay men there! icon_biggrin.gif )
