Your US Thanksgiving Plans

We're continuing our annual custom of dinner with around 25-30 friends and guests. Mostly gay couples, but a few "orphans" like the guy we're bringing, his partner out of town. Also at least 1 straight married couple.

All at our friends' house, outside along the river if weather permits (so far sunny no rain, a little cool at 73 F). Our hosts determine the menu, most of it traditional, and they assign dishes for everyone to prepare. They have a big kitchen, with 2 of every appliance, but even they can't prepare 30 meals at once, and still be playing host.

Plus it's only fair they don't shoulder all the burden & expense by themselves. And it creates a wonderful sense of communal spirit, that in some ways is a lot more true to the first Thanksgiving, than to just eat turkey and pumpkin pie.

So what are you guys doing?

As usual we will be spending the long weekend with my inlaws. We're flying to Denver tomorrow evening and spend all day Thursday cooking together with his sister, niece and others for the meal in the evening. Latest headcount is 23. Spending the day in the kitchen cooking up a storm while we talk, eat, drink (Cosmos) is my favorite tradition. The other days we'll spend with various family members and come back on Sunday.

Should be an awesome day and weekend. Will spend a portion of the day with family, but I have to travel about 2 hours one way so I hope to be back in time to launch on some major Christmas decorating (for which I'll be spending much of the weekend upon). Last year I actually had 2 Thanksgivings (which was a mistake... WAY too much food for this fitness dedicated bod), one is more than enough.

Always enjoy the reflection on the day, lots to be thankful for, success, health and happiness!

    "Latest headcount is 23"

    just shoot me...

Me and mine will be working as usually--double bonus plus holiday and triple bonus plus for him.
Normally we get volunteered because we're considered "single".
He was actually asked if he was taking off with his husband.

I'm currently in New Hampshire for a travel nursing work assignment. The other travel nurses and I are getting together to cook for Thanksgiving! They've become my family away from home.

Couldn't leave town to visit the fam because of work (retail-related.) NOT a big deal. Will probably get together with one of my hags and/or go out for Chinese food. icon_biggrin.gif

Full dinner here at my place with friends coming in and over. I'm doing most of the food but everyone is adding to the list. Some white wine and football. Probably end the day with falling asleep in front of a movie.

Just another day. The only "plans" are shoulders day (I think) in the gym and chicken day for dinner.
I'm going grocery shopping in an hour or so and buying extra food because I don't plan to go anywhere near a retail establishment again until next January.

    Happy Thanksgiving

What is the Mexican holiday when you celebrate all your drug gangs, and the thousands of people they've slaughtered over the years? Gangs unfettered by corrupt police & politicians. People who live in glass casas shouldn't throw stones.

Also, let's not forget to assist the charities that help the less fortunate on Thanksgiving and other holidays. It's probably not too late to give them some money, and/or food donations.

UGH, that's right, Christmas decorating. I suppose it should be started this weekend, get the most enjoyment out of them. In South Florida we use an artificial tree, which doesn't present the drying-out problem a real tree does.

Back up North we always had real trees, that we wouldn't put up until a week or 2 before Christmas, even though they had been shipped and stored "refrigerated" thanks to our naturally cold weather. Any earlier and they'd be dropping their needles during Christmas week. Not to mention becoming a fire hazard.

Nowadays we have trees sprayed with fire retardant, and water additives for the tree stands that keep trees fresher. And of course the aforementioned artificial trees. Yeah, guess I gotta face the music this weekend. icon_sad.gif

Having our gay family over for a traditional meal. Same group of friends for dinner going on 12 years. Locally raised farm turkey, usual side dishes, ending with coffee, apple pie, pumpkin chiffon pie with whipped cream (a once a year guilty pleasure.)

We always do a fresh tree and wreath but we don't put it up until 7-8 days into December. Take it down at New Years. A lot of work for such a short time but that is partly why it's special. When I was a kid, we had a big tree with standard lights but also had little candles all over the tree. On Christmas eve we'd turn off all electrical lights and light the candles just after Christmas feast and have desert and drinks in the living room. Episcopal mass at midnight. I remember Dad sitting just to the right of the tree with a fire extinguisher by his side just in case. Really beautiful to see. But fleeting.

Oh, good point. I'll have to patrol the fence lines through the weekend to keep people from cutting and stealing my young fir trees. icon_mad.gif

I can't stay out there all the time though icon_sad.gificon_mad.gificon_sad.gif

I used to have 7 or 8 friends who would get together at somebody's house, with everybody bringing food. It was great. But, many of them have either moved away or are visiting family.

This year, it's 3 of us going to a nice French restaurant for dinner.
    I'm thankful...

Spending the day with a good friend from work, and his wife and adorable kids. Keeping it simple and easy, potluck-style; I'm bringing smoked turkey from the grocery store deli, my favorite apples (piƱatas just came into season!) with caramel and/or peanut butter, and hopefully a half-decent pumpkin pie (in the oven now).

It snowed all day and will be super cold tomorrow, so it will be nice to be inside with friends. I forgot about booze, though; hopefully he has some of his own beer on tap still.

Cash is referring to the challenge (not really a bet) he made that you & I would not feud openly. We could continue to dispute issues but not make personal attacks, as I understood his criteria.

Which we have done per that requirement. And your reply above does not violate that. So I don't know what he's upset about. This is about that Mexican JuanPablomv89, who intruded into my thread to say America is being taken over by Black slaves or some-such racist insanity.

"Black people behave like wild savage animals thanks God there are no black people in Mexico"

I certainly hope you would unite with me in rejecting statements like that, and show Cash that it is not you & I who are arguing here.
