Opinions? Not really interested in the 3.7s unless they have the ' i ' upgrade. And especially interested if you're driving them with tube. What are you using?

I'm torn between the 3.7i and the 20.7s. I think I'd rather spend the difference on table and cartridge, but want to keep the cartridge under $5k and probably Koetsu on a Classic 3.

This is where I don't want to end up

And for some background, prior to moving back here I sold off what I had, which frankly I was quite happy with.

I had a Lyra Clavis on a Well Tempered Signature with A1s and then M1s powered by a pair of Classic 150s or vtl 450s. I follow the rule of thirds (mostly), but prefer sitting near field.

I'm determined to keep this budget and really budget to end up all in at around $30,000 and not go off half cocked and end up it at $600,000 like one of my good friends. I know of the $100,000 plus Magicos, but I can't come close to affording that.

And no digital front end at all. All analog and likely all tube.

And even back 45 years ago or so it was Tympani 1Us through 1Ds, stacked EL 57s, Dayton Wright XG2 (that I frequently had to haul all the way to Toronto to have Mike Wright work on them), KLH9s, etc.

Seems like I always preferred line source over point source, but still had a variety of those in the home office or second listening room. In re: point source I tended toward Sonus Fabers.

I had probably a worse addiction to this than I did cars.

I hate to say that the 3.7i didn't really do it for me. Even powered by a pair of the Classe CA-M600 monoblocks, which are 1,200 wpc at 4 ohms.

Front end was the VPI Classic 3 which is always a great buy for a $7,000 turntable.

Now to maybe the Magicos or the Dali.
