What Baby Boomers’ Retirement Means For the U.S. Economy

"One reason the U.S. is in better shape is its comparatively high rate of immigration. Since people tend to migrate when they are younger, immigrants tend to bring down the age of the population as a whole."

"Baby boomers are retiring just as their children — sometimes known as the “echo boomers” — are entering their prime working years."

Boomer Retirement income should be stellar. Hopefully they will be putting it back into the economy and generating jobs. A smart guy would be doing work on technology for the aging - especially the things people cannot live without in their golden years!

    Interesting thread.

I don't know what it means for the economy but I suspect the streets and highways are going to be congested with retirees slowly driving to doctors' appointments.

What it means is either all the boomers try to cash out at once thus all going bankrupt at once as real estate, stocks, and manufacturing collapse with nobody to buy what they are selling for cash to support their medical costs....or....the usa imports at least 100 million young brown people from the third world where people are younger and non christian. This will have huge ramifications for things like holidays and gay rights...

Clogging up the (so called) fast lane of the warmer climate's Interstate highway system at (at least) 10 mph slower than the prevailing traffic flow, with their left turn signal light permanently blinking away?

Not all retirees are slow drivers. There are quite a few older folks that still love to slam the pedal to the medal and fly on down the road.
