I'm looking for gay role models that I can look up to and model my life around like an angsty teen icon_biggrin.gif

The best I've got so far is Brian Paddick who ran for London Mayor. He's a former top cop.

he is not a role model; Closeted in the police force for literally AGES, being a shit politician, being absolutely foolish and trying to get publicity after failing miserably after the election by starring in reality TV, this guy is a fool and leaves a lot to be desired.

Fable, lol, I take your point, he's a pretty piss poor role model - and now I've got his face all over this thread. icon_biggrin.gif

Although running for high office completely out the closet was cool.

    Also, he's kinda hot...

Got anyone better for me to model my life on?

Porn stars and Oscar Wilde don't count.

My gay role model when I was growing up was actor Clifton Webb. Not the beautiful, swashbuckling hunks that Errol Flynn or Tyrone Power were, of course, but I loved the arrogant, superior attitude of most of his characters, especially "Lynn Belvedere." And it was so obvious he was gay, thumbing his refined & cultured nose at the straight world. Very connected, too, as I later learned, friends with the likes of Cole Porter, Noel Coward and other gay notables of the time.

How about that guy from the Amazing Race? The one who dated Lance Bass? He seemed role model-esque.

Also, why is Oscar Wilde excluded?

I guess Ellen would be a great example of a gay role model.

I was brought up not having a role model... it sounds so odd in my eyes to attempt to model your self after someone, you'd always be a second best to them, never fully matching up... seems so disappointing.. I suppose

Better to just be the best that you can be instead

icon_biggrin.gifWell, @ least you can laugh about it.....in my mind, it's like picking Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton as role models for the female persuasion.

I honestly can't think of any off hand....at least by name...I remember being impressed with the guy who took on the Boy Scouts of America...and of course, the ladies and gents that have battled the Armed Forces for their right to serve openly....

Honestly, I'd have to know a person really well to point my finger and say "Role Model"....

I see traits in alot of people I admire, but I can't think of anyone THAT PERFECT. icon_surprised.gif)

Wow, I LOVE Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs! Imagine if they both dated!! That would be amazing! I see how they could be role models. Very business savvy men, but Tom Ford really proved himself when he helped turn around The House of Gucci! He's a smart man! icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, Hitler turned around Germany too.

I don't know how smart they are....savvy, I'd give them....Marc Jacobs seems totally wrapped up in himself and his image.....the way he packages his "celebrity".....he just comes across as an attention getter with a huge ego.....I don't find any of those traits admirable.

Tom Ford, just seems to want to court controversy to push his image and label....

I don't know, I'm strictly speaking for myself, but I want to admire people who are doing something to change the world for the better...not just make alot of money and get their name on Page 6 every day.

When I first saw this thread, I honestly could not think of any. Now I would have to say Annise Parker. She is openly lesbian, a former city council member here in Houston, who is currently serving as city controller, a very high ranking position in city government. She has never attempted to hide her sexuality, but she is also very civic minded and supports a broad range of issues. When she first was elected to city council, she had the support of just about every possible civic organization, which no one ever gets (I am taking about groups like the Fraternal Order of Police).
