The entire premise of this article is false and unsupported. Where does it detail in any way the Xtian right's suppression of this day? Answer: nowhere. And no, a glancing claim of a "failure to mention" =/= suppression.
I find TJ's "Notes on the State of Religion in VA" much better, especially his discussion of how some religions go beyond toleration and insist on total acceptance and outward and visible signs of blind and unthinking support. Sound familiar?
