Perkins is fighting a losing battle to remain relevant, along with Bryan Fischer, Scott Lively, Pat Robertson, etc. All of them have their dicks in bear traps now. They've staked the entire careers on their bogus anti-gay rhetoric and now if they mollify their positions they will destroy their sources of income. They are all suffering from a steady desertion of people from the fundy fringes, and lack of new recruits that isn't even keeping up with the numbers of fundies croaking each year.

As for Ben Carson.... sad to say, is exactly what he is. Forget the fact that's a political conservative for a moment. The greatest US sources for hate and ignorance aimed at LGBT is within the black communities and specifically predominantly black churches. Do a search for some of the things said about gays by Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson & his sons, Georgia US Rep Cummings AND MORE and you may want to rethink any form of support you might have for them and their institutionalized homophobia of what is known in black circles as "a white man's disease."

    Well put!

But one might add something about all the people who shun religion because of people like Perkins, Lively, etc. They do far more damage than any imagined good.

You write as though you are unaware that there are black gay people going through the exact same thing that you're going through with respect to acceptance of being gay. You are upset that white fundies hate gay people, but instead of realizing that the same thing is happening to black gay people, where black fundies have read from the EXACT SAME SCRIPT, you just throw all black people under the bus. It is simply unbelievable that a gay man could be such a bigot toward other gay men. You talk about waiting for fundies to croak, but how long do gay black men have to wait on you?

^I might add that Obama was the first POTUS to evolve on the issue. Every president that came before him held us back.

^Just think if US, European religion and its medieval ideology of "procreation first" were to be more like China, after all, procreation is all this comes down to and their reason for being. I think this is why the right wing nuts refer to the LGBT community as communists, as they are in China. Because of religion in the black, latino and white communities, procreation is the main focus. Imagine being more like China (those communists), limiting the amount of children per couple or individual, the right wing nuts would throw a fit because that is not what their bible says. Because of religion in this country, we have too many people having children they cant afford (but religion says to have them anyway), therefore create a need for the welfare system to help them out and raise their sometimes derelict children. The republicans and their religious right would like nothing more to turn the US into China as far as corporate working world, no regulation and cheap wages, but when it comes to procreation, hands off our children! The religious right fears the day when the US becomes (communist, lead by gays) and adopts China's "population control" methods. Just think, no more US welfare system!

more chances for more gay men popping out icon_razz.gif

Many in China Can Now Have a Second Child, but Say No
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/26/world/asia/many-couples-in-china-will-pass-on-a-new-chance-for-a-second-child.html?_r=0

After three decades of a Chinese policy that limits most families to one child, many families say they will not take advantage of a major change allowing a second child because of the rising cost of child-rearing.

The imbalance is a result of Chinese using various sex selection methods to have a son under the so-called one-child policy.

Since its inception in 1979, the one-child policy has been credited with helping foster China’s surging economy by slowing population growth. But the family planning restrictions have produced an array of unintended consequences. In 2012, there were about 40 million more men than women, including 18 million more boys than girls under the age of 15. By 2020, the government estimates that 30 million eligible bachelors will be unable to find a wife.

Actually, most churches support family planning, even using methods that really work. Those churches which oppose family planning are in a minority and even many of their own members practice family planning. Many churches have the viewpoint that people should not have more children than they can adequately support.

To those who assert that the Bible prohibits family planning, can you refer to chapter and verse?

Um, something about the Catholic Church’s staunch objections to contraception because it believes that it interferes with the creation of life. They must have pulled this idea out of some bible passage? Or did they man make this idea in order to preserve the bible passage about procreation? Every objection or control issue religion has, has to do with sex of some kind, and the complete obsession over it. "Population control" via Roe v Wade, family planning, condoms or any kind of birth control is to their detriment. Therefore, anyone who objects to their compulsive disorder over the control of everyone's sex lives is of course a communist. At least this is what they tell their brainwashed followers. After the religious zealots created Aids to rid society of the gay population (communists), it didn't work so well when the virus became "not just a gay cancer" but started to infect everyone, rich, poor, race, gender and of course their procreative meat and potatoes, heterosexuals. That created a dilemma between their contraception stance and a STD disease that could kill. Opps, I guess they didn't think it though very well when they conspired and plotted to kill the undesirables that have interfered with their agenda, the creation of life.

As stated before, GOP and the right would like nothing more than to turn the US into China, for business, no regulation and low wages, but hands off the procreation and the population control agenda! Screw Ball is an understatement icon_rolleyes.gif

    Homosexuality in China
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_China

Traditional views of homosexuality in China

The political ideologies, philosophies, and religions of ancient China regarded homosexual relationships as a normal facet of life, and in some cases, promoted homosexual relationships as exemplary. Ming Dynasty literature, such as Bian Er Chai (弁而釵/弁而钗), portrays homosexual relationships between men as more enjoyable and more "harmonious" than heterosexual relationships.[10] As in Ancient Rome, homosexual relationships were prevalent in ancient China and were not regarded as morally deviant prior to the influence of foreign cultures. Writings from the Liu Song Dynasty claimed that homosexuality was as common as heterosexuality in the late 3rd century

Opposition to homosexuality in China raised in the medieval Tang Dynasty, being attributed by some writers to the influence of Christian and Islamic values,[14] but did not become fully established until the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.[

Actually, at one time, many Christian denominations opposed contraception. However, most are able, at least to some degree, to modify their positions in response to changing circumstances. In general, the churches of the Anglican Communion, of which the Episcopal Church in the U.S. is part, base doctrine on scripture (the Bible), tradition, and reason, with reason being informed with experience. That means that there is little slavishly clinging to specific Bible passages which do not seem relevant. The emphasis tends to be on the Summary of the Law, i.e., to love God and one's fellow human beings.

The Roman Church, by contrast, pretends that it has never changed doctrines and locks itself into positions so firmly that regardless of how hurtful, harmful, and irrational they seem, it is unable to make changes. Unlike many other churches, it is ruled from the top down so lay members have only very limited influence.

It is possible that some Biblical passages could be interpreted to ban contraception, but I don't know of any except perhaps for the killing of Onan for spilling his semen on the ground instead of impregnating his late brother's wife in accordance with custom at the time. However, it does not seem reasonable to see that as always banning contraception. In any case, many of the OT laws should be seen as part of ancient Hebrew culture much of which would today be seen as barbaric and completely unacceptable.

    I second that
Sometimes I think people aren't really reading their Bibles but rather listening to what others are telling them should be the bases of their faith. To be Christian means to be Christlike! Wish they'd read the story of Christs life and put it in juxtaposition to theirs icon_sad.gif
