Do You Ever Feel Older Than Your Actual Age?

My ex described me as an "old soul", which at 28 I'm not sure if that's a compliment.... I was always mature for my age and could relate better to adults than many of my peers but sometimes I feel like an old man (get off my lawn you dang kids!) lol

I like to think I'm pretty well rounded but I worry it makes me seem like the most boring person in the world when I'm talking to guys my own age because a lot of references of things 20 something's like aren't on my radar or I'm not interested in them (somewhat stereotypical interests for my age group but usually the color run, the latest iPhone, craft beers, pop music/ TV shows, etc...) I know of a little about these things but don't know them in depth like many many 20 something's seem to... I recently noted to a friend that the experience of flying has gone downhill over the decades and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Or maybe I'm not into mainstream culture? IDK, Anyone else feel like this?

Be glad. I inwardly cringe when people start talking about that stuff on your list. That stuff is not important.

Ever hear that expression "13 (or whatever) going on 30?"

For decades I've been going on 90.

Yup. I dont feel like Im 29 I feel like Im in my 30s. Its not about the body its about the mind, hard to explain but its always happened to me. Maybe its because I had to be independent very young so Ive already lived what most people my age just started to live a few years ago.

I always felt much older than the other children. It was only recently that I purchased A.A. Milne's "The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh."

    Perhaps C.S. Lewis was correct...

“Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”

Either that or senility is swiftly encroaching.

No. I feel like I'm just about ready to turn 23. I don't know WTF happened to 30 years. I think I want 'em back. icon_sad.gif

When I was still a teen friends used to tell me I was born old, in terms of attitude and behavior, not appearance. Yet I was actually notably boyish looking well into my late 30s, so any oldness was inside me.

But regarding feeling older physically, yeah, there are days I feel it, rather badly. And now I look it, too.

I don't know if I feel older than my age is expected to experience, per the OP title, but rather I feel older than I'd like. And that's the thing that really matters to me.

    Nope, just the opposite.
I blame it on late bloomer-ship, a high metabolism for half my life and the fact my sun sign is a Sagittarius icon_razz.gif

I would like to add, I had an Angiogram performed a few years ago due to chest pains which turned out to be a sliding stomach, not clogged arteries. I was quite surprised when the Cardiologist said i have the arteries of an 18 year old.

I'm also the opposite from a physical appearance standpoint. I'm almost in the mid 40's and most people think I'm still in my 30's. I hope it last a long time! icon_biggrin.gif

I have always felt older than my age. in my teens I felt like I was wise enough to pass for 30's in my mind and I still kind of feel like that to an extent.

What's that sonny? You young whipper snappers nowadays!

But seriously I feel like that all the time mainly because I didn't follow the mainstream things people my age liked like rap music football (soccer) or teenage pregnancy

Oh, well in Hi Skool of course... I had rheumatoid arthritis and strange occult talents, like the abilities to read, write, and do math that set me apart from the other kids. icon_rolleyes.gif

But as they say, "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

Without knowing exactly how I'm supposed to feel at my advanced age, I cannot tell whether I feel older than my age.

I think you seem like a forever young and curious and involved for your age, and in great shape. Just like I hope to be. You're a good role model!

Thanks. I guess that it is worth the effort.
