I never heard of this, before or after the nooz story. Anybody know of it?

With sneakers slung around their shoulders and pockets full of cash, young boys huddle in hotel ballrooms and high school gyms, shouting and bartering as if they belong on a trading room floor.

“What do you want for them?” John Leonardo asked at one recent event in New Jersey.

“What’s your offer?” someone hollered back.

In a flurry of transactions, John, who is only 13 years old, bought, sold or exchanged 20 pairs of designer basketball sneakers and walked away with seven, four more pairs than he started with. His collection’s retail value climbed to $1,155 from $340.

John, an eighth-grade student from Manalapan, N.J., and thousands of other teenage “sneakerheads” have formed a thriving subculture using Instagram, Facebook and weekend conventions to spot, sell and trade coveted, sometimes limited edition pairs of basketball shoes.

I had a pristine pair of leather high-tops that I had only used in the racquetball court, then outgrew. By the time I thought of selling them, whatever the white coating is had separated from the leather... rubbed right off icon_sad.gif

Whoever decided to make shoes look like cartoons was a marketing genius.

pazzy saidthis is actually quite common. that consumer culture... icon_sad.gif

i remember 20 years ago hearing and watching the news where the news story was about 8, 9, 10 year old kids were getting blown away for their jordans. folks dying or getting robbed over their clothes or their jewelry. after seeing and hearing that all growing up, i made me not want to be flashy or into clothing especially the big name brands because some people will target you if you come off looking like a big dollar sign.

what about ambiguous designer brands lol. like.. the gay brands

    what gay brands of clothing???

any clothing that says $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. nowadays, people are going after smart phone owners and killing them too. it's crazy but at the same time, shit is so common that it isn't even shocking anymore. it's like "oh... somebody got killed again over some smart phone or the newest sneakers or a carjacking that went bad." you think that the news would sensationalize a story of a single mother with two kids getting gunned down in newark by a group of people while robbing her for her smart phone. they killed her for that shit and didn't even take the smart phone with them. the police found that shit right next to her. icon_neutral.gif shit didn't even make the local news. it barely got talked about in the nj.com news section either. shit is foul.

Hell, just snatch & grab 'em from the back room at the dance clubs. They'd already be down around their ankles. Maybe you could get the sneaks at the same time?

well, folks aren't going to steal anything that it's readily accessible though. how many people are going to waste their time holding up someone telling them to take off their andrew christian or underwear which might contain skidmarks, cumstains and pubic hair. there would more than likely be something way more sinister if someone did that. there isn't much value or anything good coming from that unless that shit was worth millions.

unless someone was stealing straight out of the store or whatever but dunno if any stores sell andrew christian like that.

some gay brands also make shirts/jeans/pants too lol... so they could look pricey

Fashion used to be a gay male domain, but now straight men are just as into clothes and shoes. It's only a matter of time before they steal our underwear.

No one dares to steal a gay man's underwear, if he is wearing one.

Maybe a good reason to go commando.

"Your Andrew Christians or your life!"
"Don't shoot, man, I'm not wearing any."
    "What ARE you wearing?"
    "Nothing, man, I'm commando."
    "Drop 'em, lemme see."
    "What, HERE?"
"Drop 'em, or you get a hole in 'em, right where your dick is. Hmmm... not bad. Here, write your number down, I'll call you when I get done with this shift. We'll have coffee, and I've got some nice Andrew Christians I can sell yah cheap, including some sexy jocks. A package like that could use some support."
"Yeah, OK. My name is Bill. Do you take plastic?"
"Cash only, and no returns. I'll call around 11. Bye."
    "Bye."
"And pull your pants up. I don't want you arrested before I call."
