Is it weird to get sudden urges to fight or hit something but not out of anger?

ever since I've started strength training and getting stronger I keep getting sudden urges to hit something/someone (no one in particular) and i was wondering if this is normal or if anyone else has experienced this.

It's not a hateful or angry thing, i wanna say its like when gorillas beat their chests, like is it a dominance thing?

    I don't get those urges.

I'm the most mellow, chill, teddy-bear kinda dude you'll ever meat. I lift, but I'm not into fighting or violence. Can't watch a boxing match or UFC...don't find it entertainment at all.

I can't speak for everyone that lifts, but most lifters I know are similar to me: chill dudes. Maybe you're in the wrong discipline?

Hey JonDyn, you should probably consider boxing or practicing some martial arts (gives you an opportunity to hit someone too icon_cool.gif... and get hit. Drain that energy you got and learn something new while your at it. Sure it will add on to your strength training and vice versa.

I have but like the previous poster mentioned, I also do boxing..

It is fine to have it, as long as you don't hit people who do not deserve it ;)

I've experienced it before when I first started years ago never knew why although thinking back it was probably constant muscle tension in my shoulders, upper back and arms from working out too much. It was at it worst when I was driving in traffic. Try redirecting it to one of your routines where you can imagine yourself beating the shite of someone you can't stand and you might be able to pop out a couple of extra reps.

sounds like there's tension somewhere in your life (says the art student)

try analyzing the moment to find out the motivation. it's interesting that it's not from anger, but that does not mean frustration isn't a factor.

Maybe you could channel this into making a rehearsed battle?

Certainly sounds like "Roid rage." If you're not taking anything, you might want to get you testosterone levels checked. You might have a test/estrogen imbalance which can lead to some other issues.

You're only 22 so since you say you don't feel any anger with this urge, I would guess your testosterone levels might be a little high. Certainly not a bad thing because he will make gaining muscle much easier. I would get my testosterone checked just for the hell of it. It's a quick easy test and will be great feedback if you ever need hormone replacement therapy when you're older. But honestly, if you're not feeling the urge to hurt someone it's probably not a big deal.

Difficult to say if you're testosterone is high or not without having it tested. The reason you should have it tested now is so you'll have a baseline reading for years to come. I only had mine tested in my late 40's and without previous test results the doctor had nothing to go on whether it was still normal or dropped.

Start training a martial art. That urge will go away once you find yourself getting your ass kicked in the first few months by people half your size icon_lol.gif

You might enjoy adding some plyometric exercises to your routine to provide the explosive training you are craving.

The reason I work out so much is because I tend to be uber-aggressive in many things. I have to channel a lot of energy into Lifting, Staff and Punching bag style work-outs. I couldn't say it was hormone related because I've never checked. There are two comments I'd like to make regarding the comments I've read. I don't believe men are meant to be TEDDY BEARS, or PASSIVE. I completely accept the fact that I'm a male, I accept the way I am and try to channel it towards productive means. And I'm very productive. I don't agree with American Zeitgeist that males need to become soft and gentle. I believe that males are distinctly different for obvious reasons.

I wonder if it has something to do with the "gut-punching" phase (giving and receiving) that some boys go through when they start getting abs?
