I feel sorry for these guys -- they've been brainwashed by a cult.
Their "wives" are in for a lifetime of sadness, too.

It will probably have a positive effect. They come across as completely insane (and for good reason.)

I assumed that was the point. Lets look at the crazy people tying themselves in knots, trying to be something they aren't. This seems like a painful way to live.

The people in this show can't honestly have believed there was some other point in this other than making them look insane?

Being an ex-Mormon, I can sympathize to a degree. The social pressures to conform are ENORMOUS, what you have to give up to leave is sometimes extreme (in my case, my entire family), and you have to turn your back on everything you were taught from the moment you were born.

I even know several people who are in this exact position who are still in the Church. One who was old enough to go through the "torture sessions" at BYU that are shown in the film Latter-days, mentioned above. Of course, it did not cure anything and he did not come out to his wife and children for decades. When he did, he was ostracized and his wife will barely allow him out of her sight. But, he stays married to her.

They are either in complete denial (God does not make mistakes like gay people, therefore you are not gay. Which is why they will not even use the term gay or even homosexual very much anymore, but use the term "someone with same-sex attraction") or have some strange idea that the Church will be forced to accept them one day. Both are insane.

The Mormon At The Door is one big reason I have this:

    no_solicitation_no_magazine_offers_no_re

What gives you, door to door salesman or Jesus Peddler, the right to bother me when I am doing yard work or enjoying a nice rest on my front porch? Go the hell away and peddle your wares elsewhere!

^^^ I had mission companions that would see such a sign and go right on and knock and keep knocking. There "message of salvation" and "their commission from GAWD" was far too important and surpassed any no solicitation sign.

I have a no solicitation sign that I had custom made that goes mostly around my door bell so that they can't miss it. It has cut down on how many have come to the door but not all of them. I just got frustrated when they they ignored that I was not interested and just kept going and going and going on.

    This looks absolutely fucking stupid.

I have a few mixed feelings about this. First off, good on these guys for at least admitting that they are gay. lots of men can't even do that. so kudos on that. but the fact that they are denying it solely because of religious reasons is silly to me. and what's upsetting to me is that they are going on cable TV and getting PAID for this. total bullshit.

also, ABC did this years ago and it only took 6 minutes

I have a very sneaky suspicion, as well, that if you were to ask any of these guys if they believe in gay rights (marriage, etc.), they would all say no....even though they're gay.

I'm all about people having religious freedom, and sure if you want to be a part of a religion that frowns upon who you are...go for it...but don't 1) try to make money off of it; 2) exploit other people; and/or 3) try to make others believe what you believe.

It's just part of the missionary training thing. Never take the first no, or second. And some simply cannot believe that you are not interested in "salvation."

The only time I actually had a rifle pointed at me during my time was when I was with another who would not take no for an answer. After the 3rd time, the guy goes to the closet and gets his gun. The ignorant ass I was paired with still kept going. I had to practically drag him away from the door. He thought Gawd would protect him as long as he was "sharing the message." Insanity. But, by that point, I was on the well on the road of accepting who I am and unlearning all the shit my head was filled with from birth.

STUDY: Mixed-Orientation Mormon Marriages Likely to Fail
Despite the title of a TLC documentary, your husband (or perhaps wife) actually is gay and your marriage may break up, research indicates.

"The researchers found that “between 51 percent and 69 percent of mixed-orientation Mormon marriages end in divorce, well above the roughly 25 percent of LDS couples who split up,” the Tribune notes. They also reported that 70 percent of Mormons who identify as LGBT or “same-sex attracted” end up leaving the church. And only 6 percent of respondents said they rejected their LGBT identity, although 80 percent had gone through therapy designed to change their sexual orientation."

Marriages of this type “are two to three times more likely to end in divorce than others,” reports The Salt Lake Tribune in an article on the study by a doctoral student at Utah State University and a retired Brigham Young University professor.

I don't see why people online seem so outraged and judgmental about this. These guys are just defining what works for them as individuals. It would only be weird if they are unhappy in their relationships. Some guys just always pictured a wife and kids in their futures. If it works for them, more power to them. LGBTQSSA?

Nature created homosexuality for a reason and they are going against what nature had intended them to be.
