Why do so many conservatives oppose doing away w anti-marijuana laws. I just don't get their rationalization for keeping them on the books.

Wow, that sentence is difficult to parse. Must be time for more coffee...

It's because these laws are part of the foundation of the police-state/prison-industry/organized-crime axis that is so important to the right-wingers. If the future is going to be feudalism, you need strong control of the serfs.

Because US conservatives are by definition regressive, oppressive, and socially backward. Plus they see harsh marijuana laws as a vehicle for minority suppression & persecution, which they support. And if that weren't enough, Democrats largely tend to support liberalizing these laws. Two words that will cause conservatives to reflexively be in opposition, even without knowing the actual facts or issues, nor considering the matter rationally & logically.

Why not control the serfs w anti alcohol laws? I mean let's face it, alcohol is the UNIVERSAL 'gateway' drug.

Don't forget anti-tobacco laws as well since nicotine is a potentially dangerous and addictive drug.
