It's hot all the time where I live and I was just wondering what every one's opinion on tank tops was. I am not talking about cut off tshirts but actual tank tops. I personally think nice, well fitting tank tops are a more stylish look than just a tshirt. Great for casual day at the park, lunch with friends, beach, running errands, shopping, etc. Not to mention way cooler than a T when its 108 out. Basically anywhere shorts would be acceptable. I think I would draw the line at wearing tanks to anything formal like dinner or a movie. Any thoughts?

If you find them comfortable and wear them in a climate where they are appropriate, I don't see any reason against wearing them in most situations.

They look great if you have the shoulders/bod to pull it off!

It's like any other fashion in that respect.

Love them on well built guy. But probably only appropriate in pretty casual places. I think the general division you describe is right. And mostly a daytime thing.

Yeah, i agree with you. I have seen them look good on slim guys too as long as they have good definition in their arms.

I prefer the ribbed ones, and not in white (white ones remind me of domestic violence or Hyacinth Bucket's brother in law).

If you have a hairy back, you should get that seen to first as well.

I actually think they look ok on most body shapes. Maybe not on skinny fat guys but that is the worst body shape for lots of things.

I have never been a fan of the tight fitting ribbed ones. I like the looser surfer style ones like the ones from Billabong, Hurly, RVCA, Volcom, etc.

You need great shoulders, arms and traps to pull off a tank top. And most gay men wear them WAY too tight. It makes them look desperate for attention. And NO ONE looks good in Stringer tanks or those square cut tanks that look like a woman's tank.

Must be an east coast thing, to worry about such stuff icon_rolleyes.gif

I did keep one in the console of the jeep all summer, just for formal occasions, like if I had to go inside for dinner or a movie icon_lol.gif

We all wore them in the 70's, but I don't really like the tan lines that they leave. My collection has gradually moved more toward the "sleeveless tee" style.

Tank tops are like the gay uniform.

    The best invention since underwear!

But there's hope. Skinny fat guys can go to lean and muscular in short order if they workout. I suggest turning masturbation into a workout routine. I mean, if you're already putting in the time, you might as well multitask.

Masturbation is a time-honored workout method:

I kind of agree, especially when it's worn tight. But if he's got the body and it's a workout shirt, not so much.

They have their time and place. If you have to ask, you shouldn't wear them.

A note to our British and Aussie friends...

In America, a tank top is an "A-shirt". Like the wifebeater in the pic above, or this one:

Here at the beach in SoCal, tank tops are very much in style again, after being out of favor for a short while.

The sleeveless jumper is called a "sweater vest" here in the States.

Tank tops look good the best on guys with toned athletic built guys, but they worse on overweight guys, just make them look sloppy, but if you want to wear tank tops, have at it Haus.

If you are at a formal event or a nice restaurant, don't wear tank tops, it make you look like you don't care about your presentation and would rather be at a beach or club.

I think the real question is: What do tank tops think of me?

Just don't wear them to an employment interview if you are applying for an executive position.

Look great on a nice body, especially with tattoos, the right amount of armpit hair and most of all worn tight. Now wearing them to a formal dinner, it would be appetizing for me to look at but still probably not appropriate.
