Right, heres the story, I'm looking to find out if I was in teh wrong some how, in my head I was right, but here we go.

I was at the gym, doing my little working, lifting my little weights, getting my little sweat on, doing my little thing, with my little bit of music...

I was done doing inclined dumb bell presses (and I was fierce btw, I pushed hard, just want everyone to know that) and I take ma weight back to the rack and put them back in there proper place (after moving line half a dozen weights back into there place first)

I pick up my next weights for inclined dumbbell flies and I go back to my bench, now, my bench has my shit on it and around it, ie, I have my towel out on the bench, my drink bottle, my members card, my routine, pen and I put my weights down on either side of the bench, I sit down and put the weights down, grab my bottle of water...

Shockingly, its empty and I'm as parched as hell.... SOOO, ya know, I do the only sane thing, I get up (with my bottle) and I head for the water fountain, all the while on my walk there, I'm strutting my stuff on the way over (cause ya know, I'm like monsterly hot hahaha) get to the water fountain (we also call them bubblers here) fill up my bottle and start heading back to my bench...

Low and behold, what do I see...

Some idgit fuck nut taking one of my weights.... NOW, you couldn't half tell that bench was being used... as well as them damned weights... SOOO, I walk back calmly, I am passing the guy, I pull out my head phones (totally resist the urge the deck the fucker while hes incapable of defending him self with weights in his hands) and very nicely tell him, hes taken my weight..

NOW, in my head, in my head, the nice thing to do (and what I would have done) would have been to pass me back the weight, tell me your sorry and went and collected another available weight..

but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO he says "I didn't realise they belonged to you, they didn't have your name on it" and then turns around and throws the weight back towards my bench...............

Now at this point, I'm resisting the urge to beat the shit outta this guy for attempting to ruin my good little mood I had going, images run through my head of my fist repeatedly breaking his nose...

But I resist, I just left him there went back to my set, exchanged glances with this totally hot fucking stud (ya know, that sorta glace that tells you he is thinking the same thing about the dick head you are) and continue on with my little workout, busting my little arse..

    I feel good now icon_biggrin.gif

But anyway, I had a story..

But more importantly, I was in the right wasn't I? telling him he'd taken my weight? little fucking idgit, thinking he can be rude...

Does your gym have only one set of each weight level? If there were another dumb bell of the same weight and it were easily locatable on the rack, then I would have just gotten the replacement dumb bell and let it go....hoping that the other guy could see me do it.

If the replacement dumb bell could not be easily found and fetched, then I would have done as you did.

Avoidance of confrontation at the gym is paramount.

there are three weights of each weight group, so six weights in total for each one.

Why would I avoid a confrontation? I felt he'd done wrong, going to the rack to pick up another weight just makes me feel like I've let him walk over me cause I'm scared of him... he was built bigger then me, but he was stupid to think he could intimidate me in any way...

He should have been the one to grab the weight from the rack..

I should have mentioned, I was using one set, a women behind and to the left of me was using another set and the third set of weights where spread, he grabbed one off the rack and then grabbed one of mine cause he was to lazy to go his the other one from the other part of the rack.

Throwing a weight like that is a violation in most gyms. Not sure how receptive your gym management is to making complaints about other members, but that kind of behavior is out of line and might have been brought to their attention.

I hate guys like that. Total losers. You were in the right lilTanker. The guy was probably a newbie. At the gym as part of his New Years Resolution. Little bastard.

You were in the right and I'm proud of you for being polite, mature and took the high road. I bet the guy was pissed you didn't sink to his level.

That is exactly the issue I would have dealt with. If he had injured someone there would have been hell to pay.

Oh don't worry lilTanker. You were in the right.

I've seen similar acts of rudeness. Like when someone is on a bench, actually working out hard. Then gets up to get a quick sip of water from the drinking fountain. And then SWOOSH.. some jerk just comes along, knocks the previous person's towel off the bench and then proceeds to workout.

If this happens near me, I speak up and let the rude bastard know that someone was working on the bench. And often times, their response is a shrug and a "so-what?" expression on their face.

    icon_lol.gif what a dipshit.

Should have told him that the 'you're name's not on it' line went out with the threat of cooties.

You were 100% in the right.

If he wasn't using it I would have walked up and retrieved it.

I initially and generally treat people like they crap golden eggs, but when someone annoys me with inconsiderate behavior directed towards me or someone in my presence... well lets just say that inconsiderate assholes don't get consideration.

Well, I think you were both in the wrong. I mean, yah, he could've waited a bit longer, but you cant just take a weight and set it by your stuff to reserve it. I know you just wanted some water and all, but that's the way it looks. So, though I wouldn't have just taken it, I would've been thinking the same thing about you. It doesn't have your name on it..... Understanding this, in your shoes I would've just confronted him and said that you didn't mean to just hold it until you were ready, but had to get some water. I would've given him two options: Allow you to use it and then give it to him, or let him use it and ask him to return it to you. As far as I can see it, you both inconvenienced each other, so you should just work together since it's not your private gym.

BTW...had you hit him I would totally have hoped you'd give me your class ring and go steady - you butch little thing you!

10000% you are in the wrong.

    How dare you do that?

Seriously. This guy probably thought you were done and took one.

    OK JUST KIDDING.

How can you even doubt that you were in the right????? You are right in anyway you look at it. Just today I was at 24 hour fitness and I pick up some 35 weights which were placed in the wrong spot as 90% of them were and used them for my chest and back workout.

Well in between sets I notice that the 35 spots are free so I can at least return to the right place. All of a sudden some douche bag comes along with the 25s and puts them right in the 35 spots. What the ?? I look over and the 25 spots are free! I don't know why I didn't say anything, I wish I did, cause I feel no one says anything it helps perpetuate the behavior.

I've been trying to become more assertive and not let people walk over me and others. There is such a huge sense of entitlement here in LA. I've begun to tell people like this when they are in the wrong.

You were absolutely right in this case. Go you!

Yeah, you were totally in the right. He was either clueless or rude. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes to use weights that I want, but not often.

Just yesterday I was doing incline dumbbell presses. The gym wasn't crowded and there were 2 other adjustable/incline benches. I had done a couple of sets so it was obvious I was using the bench. I went to get my next weights, picked them up, and on the way back there was a guy adjusting my bench so he could use it. I tried to yell at him that I was using the bench, but with his headphones on he couldn't hear me. When I got to the bench I told him I was using it, he tried to readjust to where I had the bench, but I couldn't stand there with 180 lbs anymore, so I had to put the weights down. I acted all disgusted, but I'm really just an a**hole and needed to vent. He wasn't too much at fault, but I wish people would be a bit more aware of their surroundings when working out.

Thanks guys icon_smile.gif I knew I was in the right, but sometimes, it just makes me wonder, I don't usually get attitude like that from people, I'm not really used to it to be honest, most everyone is always ultra respectful and I am in return..

Anywho, its all good I suppose icon_smile.gif

about the other fella, he emailed me, I replied and I never heard back from him, eh, he talked to me, so, I'm all good icon_smile.gif

Let me start by saying I think you were right so that I don't get bashed by your fan club (sigh.. yes I have a membership icon_redface.gif).

The only thing I would add is that I have seen guys in the gym grab weights and put them to the side until they are ready to use them, and then not use them for like 15-20minutes. It doesn't sound like you left them long enough for someone to assume that, but it's just another perspective.

*ducks to avoid flying weights* icon_cry.gif
