At least it's less harmful than religion. No one has killed anyone in the name of Santa, that I know of.

Are you saying that they become indentured servants? Or are you trying to say that they've actually sold their children? Either way, it sounds pretty horrible. Unless the kids were really, really a mistake. icon_neutral.gif

My folks told us about the "Christchild" (German: Christkind) bringing the presents. And today I'm gay and suffer from depression. icon_rolleyes.gif

I think it's more important that they give their kids a good education and make sure they can spell before unleashing them onto the world.

ummm... You were always gay, not something that happened today, or yesterday, and your profile doesn't sound depressed.

Haven't we chatted before? My memory is dreadful. I lived in Germany für zwei Jahre, and I love Germans. The nicest people, but often misunderstood and mischaracterized by Americans. I think from watching too many WWII war movies.

You live with your husband just up in Orlando? My dear, we must all meet some day. Perhaps we can be your tour guides here, and show you Key West, too, if you haven't been there already. And we sometimes get up to Orlando ourselves, usually on business but with some free time.

Christmas rates among my fondest memories of Germany. The outdoor Weihnachtsmärkte in town squares, with carolers singing as the snow fell at night, cannot be matched in the US. If you really are depressed it would more likely be from spending Christmas under the palm trees in Florida. icon_razz.gif

My main problem with your thesis, Martin, is that the children are being painted as the victim here. It's well known that the Santa story was begun by cynical (and likely future supervillain) children to shake down their gullible parents for fencible contraband. How do you think I began my own laser-mounted shark school? Yup, my parents thought I believed in Santa Claus until I was 25.

Agreed. You're teaching your kids that it's OK lie.
