They weren't always Christians. Those beliefs were taught to them by Protestant white missionary workers. Maybe we could start a gay Missionary org and start arming gay Ugandans with Uzis .. that should take care of things.

The comments on the video were some of the worst I've seen... I think the worst place in the world to be gay is anywhere where a gay person has resorted to suicide.

Nah, come on. You can't really say that. There are tons of gay teens that kill themselves in America but I still don't think its the world's worst place to be gay. Happy New Year though!

I wasn't talking about a country. I was talking about anywhere in the world where it comes to this.

True, but we have it pretty darn good in this country (all things considered) and we still have gay people killing themselves. Hell, in Belgium recently, a woman had herself euthanized by the government because she was unhappy with her sex change operation. Some people are just suicidal and don't need much incentive to off themselves. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2440086/Belgian-transsexual-Nathan-Verhelst-44-elects-die-euthanasia-botched-sex-change-operation.html

I kind of skimmed thru the video. it looked like it was solely focusing on Uganda, and possibly other areas of south/central Africa. I'm a little surprised it doesn't have any focus on Eqypt/Libya/Somalia...other countries in northeast Africa and the Horn of Africa. Maybe their intent was just to narrow down one specific location....but as a general whole, it's more than just that one country, it's an entire region of the world.

I think there's quite a few places that is horrible to be a homosexual and Africa being one of them but I can mention places in the UK that is quite hard to be gay and also many different places in the states. I think it's the people and tolerance that make a place undesirable.

More often than not, it's religious beliefs and/or ignorance involved.

It is because in the third world, there is little education and enlightenment. Education also makes people more secular and less religious, especially fundies of different religions. Some countries also have missionaries from US or other places spreading hate to gays of a particular country.icon_sad.gificon_sad.gif

It's more than just the general people's lack of tolerance. sure, republicans in the south hate the gays and have made *some* laws that prevent rights (marriage). But they've simply prevented you from marrying another dude (and everything that comes with marriage).

but a country having an *entire* government wanting to either kill or imprison you for being gay (or "acting gay", I think is what the actual AHA law stated) is totally different.

And I totally get what you mean, and there's a lot of merit to it --- sure kids get bullied, kill themselves, beaten up or murdered by other general people who just hate them because their gay. and that's terrible, horrible, and I wish it didn't happen.

but that's not the same thing as an entire government sanctioning laws (and PRAISING those laws as a "victory against the homosexual") that imprison or (attempted to at least) execute you. That's what makes countries like Uganda (the *entire* country) so terrible when it comes to Human Rights.

Look at the country. It's a total hypocritical train wreck. They all walk around spewing hate the faggots and look out for the poo poo yet they whip out those nasty cocks and fuck the first thing that see and rationalize it.

    Go to hell.
May you reap what you sow!

It wasn't that long ago that other countries that are now considered tolerant and balanced had the same views and implemented the same laws that Africa are doing (albeit, I'm not going to debate the severity of it all). I totally get what you mean and I'm not negating your opinions but just like first world countries, Africa has a long way to go before ever getting there when it comes to the rights of man.

I personally see the crippled structure of that region, a structure that was crippled by many first world countries like the relationship between UK/India not so long ago.

It's sad when you see people who promote and allow this kind of hate to continue but in a world where nobody would stand up against something like that because murder is so free and willing. I'd struggle with the thought of rebelling too.

It's easy to condemn a place for its wrong doing but I think my aspect is to try and understand the reason and perhaps the many different approaches because it must be really hard to stifle your own opinions in a world where free will isn't all that celebrated because of the rule of religion.

The US in general has very high suicide rates in general compared to the rest of the world, including third world countries. The US is just spoiled and overworked, we have a million and one reasons to be stressed/depressed. It's also mostly amongst the middle to upper class. So whether your gay, straight, white, black, poor, or rich your problems are YOUR problems wherever you go.
People just need to stop blaming the world.

Hm, in general terms, Africa, the Middle East, very religious Christian countries and some parts of Asia, and Russia too. Most western countries and parts of the US are gay-friendly.

Many but some seem like it, due to the disparity in wealth and education.

Just what do you guys think "Third World" means?

Originally the term was coined to designate countries that were not aligned with either NATO (the "First World") or the Soviets (the "Second World"). China, Brazil, India, and certainly the Middle East countries were all considered part of the "Third World".

More recently the term seems to be used as a synonym for "poor". But how can you say countries like China, or the Middle East oil states, are too prosperous to be considered Third World when the average citizen doesn't have access to a decent education - or indoor plumbing?

If I may correct you, countries including Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina and some states in Mexico have approved same-sex marriage. Others, like Colombia and Ecuador, allow civil unions.
