sit ups

    Hello everyone.
    I would probably do 99% more sit ups at home if i could figure out a way to feel stable doing them.
    Usually at the gym i do them on an incline which has somewhere to put your feet.
    However at home I have nothing I can hook my feet around because i live in a tiny room in a share house.

    What tricks do you use to keep your feet in place when you do situps at home?

    I'm no expert, but I have done a lot of classes at the gym and hooking your feet under something isn't such good form.

    For a core routine, I usually put my legs at a 90 degree angle and do crunches. Putting your chest to your knees with your legs at 90 degree angles is a lot more effective.

    Brace then under your bed, unless your bed is on the floor. Or you can get a bar for a doorway. Like the Iron Gym. Or be creative snap off a broomstick handle if you have to do it.

    You could always take advantage of the lack of support by doing V-ups, or reverse crunches, or planks. There are many other forms of abdominal exercises that hit the muscles from different angles, and that's a good thing.

    I stick my feet under the low shelf of my comp desk.
    The bed could work too, as well as partially pulling out a dresser drawer.
    Curl bar would work, so would dumbbells.

    I also read (and was told) that there are two reasons why you can't do unanchored situps:

    1) Your legs don't weigh enough to hold you down
    2) Your hip flexors are way too tight

    I personally had both problems for a long time.
    I now have heavier legs, but can only do a few unanchored situps, because my hip flexors are so tight.

    You can also try tightening up the rest of your core; by that I mean mainly your pc muscles (the muscles that contract when you stop your pee). That should give you even more strength to pull everything together.

    I personally try to never do anchored situps now, because they don't do much for me, and I know that's not where my weakness is.
