The holiday are over and all those meals since Thanksgiving and maybe Halloween candy caused you to gain an average of 5-10 pounds.icon_lol.gificon_twisted.gif Actually average holiday weight gain is more of a pounds or so.

In order to lose the holiday weight, some people start going to a gym to lose weight. Come next month, many people just stopped going to the gym.

How crowded is your gym? It is full of new members and the aggravation of people doing bicep curls in the squat rack?icon_confused.gif

I've noticed a definite uptick in people working out in my gym this week, but by the end of the month, most of them will be gone again. Been there, survived that, next!

Mine hasn't been too crowded in the past couple of New Years. I suspect it's because a new larger gym opened some time ago down the street.

My gym that I would be going to next week. I am not sure if there would be an uptick in new people. The gym is Strom Thurmond Fitness and Wellness center, it is only used by USC students. So people of Columbia would not be able to go to it. Since I am an USC Columbia student, I can go there and hopefully there won't be crowded.icon_smile.gif

I go to the uni gym and the semester doesn't start before the 12th so I haven't seen too many people yet.
Anyways I go there in the morning to avoid the crowd.
Like people above have already mentioned it, the good resolutions will be part of the past by the end of the month if not before.

True; most people don't realize that weight loss is slower and there is NO magic pill so people find "an excuse" and give up after a month or so.

Nope, just me and the cat. Didn't notice any extra joggers on the road, but there is freezing rain coming down.

Oh, and I gained one (1) lb, or actually 0.5 kg according to my scale. I could drop that by skipping lunch!

My gym always has a influx of newbies for the first week or so. They fade away by week 3. lol.

January is Horrible! I make sure I go after 9pm or even after 10pm, wish the gym would extend its 1st quarter hours to 1am until the NY resolution-ists fail by March icon_rolleyes.gif

Time of day and location has a lot to do with whether or not your gym will be crowded.

3 p.m. to 8 p.m. is when my gym gets mobbed so I avoid going at those times. I am a night owl so I tend to go to the gym very late when there are less people. I'm talking 10 p.m. to midnight, even 11 p.m. more often than not.

There are still a decent number of people but it won't be crowded. Yet these jerks are always socializing and doing nothing on equipment I want to use. If you want to sit and veg do it elsewhere.

It's a shame that there is never crowds of eyecandy so you at least have something to enjoy while being annoyed.

It's normally super crowded now through the end of January. In dies down considerably but then picks up again in March just before Spring break. Then it slows down month by month by month until next Jan.

Our downtown gym - regular gym not CrossFit - gets nuts after 12/31 with the resolutionists. Friday, Sunday both heavy cardio users but not as much increase on the free weights or machines. As said it will pass by about end of January if it's same as last year at this gym. CrossFit Saturday and last night was pretty much the same - one new person at each.

So far my gym has actually been more or less the same. That might have something to do with it's location. It's on the ground floor of an office complex in a business park separated from residential areas. I'm assuming that most of the gym goers are people who also work in the building.

It was a pleasant surprise. Hoping it will stay like this.

One of perks of using rec facilities on a college campus. Most of the people are gone on break for a good portion of January :-)

That was definitely the life, good ole days! It also helps to keep workouts as flexible as possible if you want to lift and get out in a reasonable amount of time.

The Holidays.. .Thanksgiving and Christmas.. black Friday, overeating, overindulging always equals:

SWEAT MONDAY! The first Monday following January 1st!

The gyms are full, lots of gabbing, staring, stressed out trainers and gym staff and some bumbling with gym equipment... but

Everybody should be encouraged to improve their health and wellness. Yeah, braving the parking lots and the crap is a pain in the ass, but we as fitness enthusiasts always.. always need to help and encourage others.

Ohmygod yes. It's mobbed. There were only three or so treadmills open when I went tonight and that never happens.

Fun article on NPR recently about gyms. They oversell memberships knowing that most people will not use the facility regularly. All of those slackers are subsidizing the memberships of the serious types who actually use the gym. If everyone showed up it would be an impossible mess.
